Free Dessert Totally not worth it

So last night was my 22nd wedding anniversary - so the Mr. and I went to fancy schmancy steakhouse last night, because, keto. The only problem is that when one goes to a fancy dinner, one feels compelled to drink and when the house offers to buy one dessert, will is relaxed because of alcohol…

The waitress comes to our table and says the restaurant is buying us a dessert. Well shoot, we are paying so much for this dinner, we might as well take the free $10 dessert, why not?

Not only did I get the worst night of sleep I have had in ages, I am up 1.8 pounds and feel like I have a hangover. Yes I had some prosecco and wine, but not that much!

I wonder how long it’s going to take to drop that 1.8 pounds. Totally not worth it.

Awww… Well congrats on 22 years! Maybe you both can go to the park for a nice long walk together and laugh and forget about it…

My wife and I have our 27th anniversary in 2 weeks. Thanks for doing the free dessert test and taking one for the team. I shall avoid dessert if it’s offered! :+1:

When you do the reservation on Open Table (the web-based reservation program that so many restaurants use), they ask if you are celebrating something. It’s sweet that they put rose petals on the table, but would have been better off had they not offered me dessert. Maybe next time we will let them know before we start drinking we don’t eat sugar. I take full responsibility for my choice and when I was sharing the dessert, I felt in heaven. But man, I can’t believe how physically crappy I feel today. It’s amazing how sugar can affect you after you have been off of it for well over a year. Also, I realize how quickly I could gain all this weight back if I ever gave up this way of eating and allowed sugar back in on any kind of a regular basis.

Less than 22 years.

Ha! I sure hope so. I am hoping it’s all water and will be gone in a few days.

You know, maybe it has done you a favour and shown you just how important this WOE is to you.
Last year I had my 60th Birthday on Brighton Pier (UK) with some friends and their kids/grandkids. At the restaurant, suddenly the kitchen staff came out singing Happy Birthday and holding a chocolate cake with candles! The kids were so excited that I took a sliver of cake and squashed and pushed it around the plate, putting little bits to my mouth, trying not to ingest too much! Anyway, suddenly I felt shocking, sweaty and shaky, typical of the low BG I used to get on night shifts sometimes. I can only imagine that I had a massive insulin spike that dropped it suddenly! But, never again!

Believe me, I know how important it is. I already know I will never go back.

…and I am up ANOTHER pound today, despite getting right back on plan. So a single dessert cost me 2.8 pounds! Being that I only manage to drop between 3-4 a month typically, it may take me weeks. Such is the damaging power of sugar…

I am dong a 20 hour true IF today (meaning no HWC in my coffee this morning) so hopefully that will put a dent in it.

Maybe you could ask for a come on the appetizers instead of the dessert, since you don’t do sugar?

My son suggested that but having worked in restaurants years ago, I know the reason they offer dessert -it’s because the raw ingredients are so much cheaper in terms of food costs than appetizers - flour, sugar, eggs = cheap!
