Force myself to eat or no

(Kellie) #1

Hello.
I’m 51 years old, 5’6 and currently 8 days on keto down 4 pounds at 181. I’m super happy with the loss and knowing it was only water but I feel so much better even now. My goal weight is 140.
I have been super strict keto eating only fresh organic veggies (broccoli, celery, asparagus, kale, cucumbers) and the healthiest beef, chicken, fish I can find. I have had canned albacore tuna, even though I hated opening the can. I felt a little iffy the first couple days, low energy and head ache but since yesterday I am feeling wonderful.
My question is that my appetite is gone until about 2 in the afternoon, after eating my largest meal at about 6 the night before. Iv read it’s not good to fast this early but I hate the idea of forcing myself to eat. I have been adding a tsp. of avocado oil to my coffee to just make sure I get something in. Any ideas?
Thanks Kellie

You’re not forcing a fast if you only eat when you’re hungry. Your appetite will come and go, especially this early. Just listen to your body.

Thank you so much. I just read something about fasting too early causing your BMR to lower and that’s the last thing I want.

6PM - 2PM isn’t really fasting, as such, so don’t worry about it. Just make sure you’re eating enough when you do eat, and if you’re hungry, eat then as well.

Hello and welcome Kellie.

This is your new normal. We are so used to eating every 4-8 hours on a carb based diet that we expect to be hungry after a certain amount of time so it’s kind of a shock when we go that first 12+ hours and realize we haven’t eaten and are not hungry. Since you’ve drastically reduced carbs, your hormones are behaving how they are supposed to.

You don’t need to worry about your metabolism as long as you listen to your hunger signals. Eat when hungry, don’t eat when you are not. It’s that simple.

Thank you! I have figured my macros and track them faithfully on an app. I make sure I hit my protein and am averaging 10 carbs daily.

Always remember that they’re a vague guess based on an average calculated from carb burners
