I understand the macros, and percentages, but for the best results should I eat just one meal per day? It seems I’ve seen that mentioned. I would prefer to eat at least two meals if the program will work. I’ve remained steadily in ketosis for two weeks, and track my macros on my fitbit. Thanks!!
For best results, how many meals per day?
Two would be fine. OMAD apparently isn’t optimal for fat loss, more for maintenance. Most important thing is to listen to your body and respond to what is asks for.
That’s very independent. Being only two weeks in I’d continue to eat normal meals while your body adapts to the higher fat intake and starts getting the message that fat is it’s fuel, most people spend the first 8-12 weeks becoming fat adapted. At two while you’re in ketosis, your still not that efficient at burning ketones as fuel many people have better results when you continue to keep the intake normal. Whether skipping meals brings better results or not can depend on your metabolism, whether you’re insulin resistant and if so how much, how active you are, and your needs for constant fuel, and of course to a point whether you want to do that or not. Ultimately, if you prefer to eat two meals, then just do that. As long as that doesn’t leave you hungry then you’re good.
For me, two meals a day works good. Occasionally, (actually yesterday), I only eat one but that’s mostly because I’m not hungry when I get up in the morning.
Honestly, it’s not something I worry about. If I eat good meals, I don’t get hungry in between. And as odd as it may seem, I get less hungry eating nothing than I do eating a snack.
The thought I took from Dr. Fung is basically when don’t eat, don’t eat. When you eat, eat well. It’s worked pretty well for me. (Down about 70 pounds in just under a year.) And I do NOT go hungry!
Good luck! Some of this stuff kinda sorted itself out for me as I listened to my body. Hoping it will for you, too.
I just started doing keto this week but for months I have simply not been eating breakfast. Being retired I just get up, have my coffee and go on the internet until about lunch time. Then I eat lunch and then dinner later. So I am already fasting part of the day.
A few months ago I had to fast for a ‘procedure’ and found it not difficult at all. I’ve been hearing differing opinions on whether or not to fast or how long to fast for. When is the best time to start fasting even if only for a day? How long after starting keto? Or should I do it right away. I am diabetic and since starting keto my numbers have been coming down.
Anecdotal but 28 days in and I have a coffee between 9am and 12pm, a lunch when I am hungry between 12pm to 4pm and then a dinner between 4pm to 6pm. I try to not eat after 7pm.
Ive lost weight every day so far with the exception of two days maintaining the previous days weight. Started with 100lbs to lose as my goal.
Thank-you all very much! I’ve pretty much determined that drinking a lot of water in the morning, green tea with coconut oil at lunch, and 1 meal (relatively low protein) at 4, then dinner at 7 (salmon, brocolli or similar foods). After that, I find that I’m not hungry at all until the next afternoon. I am getting 3 low carb vegetables every day, but this being summer, I sooo miss my fruit! Like other posts I’ve seen, I too have been getting spleen, liver and kidney pain. I do take supplements, but I’m thinking that possibly my organs are becoming adjusted to using fat for fuel as opposed to carbohydrates. My weight has been static for about 5 days.
