Food triggers through TV?

(Heather Meyer) #1

So i just watched the first episode of Season 8 of my 600lb life…and i found myself looking at them eating all the food and all i could think of was FOOD!!! It made me hungry and make me crave the need for pizza. I rarely get this kind of thing.

Is this a normal experience? Anyone else experience cravings from watching TV shows or commercials?

I don’t now that I am on Keto, Heather, but pre-Keto I always did.

I can totally see why you would be triggered seeing these shows atm, since you are not eating hardly anything at all, because of your health issues. Since you are only eating a maximum of 300 calories daily right now, you must be feeling hungry all the time, so it is only logical that seeing food would be making you feel hungrier. I think that most of us would be in the same boat.

It’s normal for me, keto or non keto. Those ads are there for a reason, to induce cravings. I just try to laugh and go eat something keto.

I can’t watch the British baking show on Netflix anymore. One time, this summer, I was binge watching it and was craving sugar to death. We don’t keep sweets generally so I found an old hard bag of brown sugar and ate a spoonful of that. (It worked) But now I’m banned from watching baking shows.

interesting…
For me, i have no issue watching baking shows or sweets shows. Its the shows that have all the things like pizza abd french fries that drive me batty.

That is interesting. I can pass pizza and french fries by. I literally crave granulated sugar when I crave anything off keto.

Yes, of course. The whole purpose of TV advertisements and product placement is to generate a desire and demand for the products being advertised, especially food.

You just have to be aware of the process and realize you are being manipulated for someone’s profit, and then you should be able to manage the desires a bit better.

I don’t see what’s on the TV as food anymore unless it’s a big sizzling steak :cut_of_meat:

I can watch some shows now, but I choose to not watch them anymore. Why tempt fate for me? lol

But when switching into very low carb eating and into carnivore back in the day…I had to stop watching a lot of baking shows I loved, things like Diners, Drive In and Dives cause the burgers/pizza and so much more good food would make me want to eat point blank.

Commercials and more. Yea if that right one hits me at the right time, yea, it can drive me nuts. Longer on plan years now and I feel more secure thru it all. In the beginning of my changeover in eating plans, wow walking thru life was like a mine field of see me, smell me and eat me everywhere I turned! It was freaking hard!

That show, 600 lb. life…when I watch an episode I don’t find it horrible and not want to eat. I swear when I watch that show I just want to eat! Eat the pizza they buy and show people eating. I want the monster breakfasts with a lb. of bacon and a few bagels and 4 slices of toast and more. I want it just like you said PortH. I don’t feel repulsed by them eating big quantity of crap…I actually feel jealous they are eating that crap. I don’t know why I feel that way on that show?? huh

Watch Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives sometime. You’ll be starving by the end of the episode. I watch at most minutes of this, otherwise I want to eat something.

TV commercials are 95% about fast foods and drugs that dr.'s are pushing. I often watch Naked and Afraid.

I rarely have this but if I am hungry enough, it happens with certain foods.
If I eat extreme low carb, I don’t have this though who knows? I never starved on carnivore (but I guess I would desire my normal food then. Or anything that satiates me. Definitely not anything carby).
But I don’t remember it was a significant problem on higher-carb either, I’m just not that type. I love looking at food, reading about them, I am too addicted to the topic of FOOD but I don’t get hungry or have sudden cravings most of the time. But I was quite full on even high-carb almost all the time (I just need to eat very, very much) and when I fasted, I was in ketosis… Force me into some low enough calorie carby diet and I will desire everything that is at least borderline edible for humans and has calories without any extra trigger  Or almost everything, I would need to be near death to eat glazed donuts with colorful sprinkles, for example and I wouldn’t desire them even then, I would just do what I must to survive.

I see many nice foods, I get even nostalgic sometimes or decide I will eat something similar at one point in the future. But I rarely want them right away. I enjoy the food with my mind, it has several benefits.

But if a craving happens, some other food help a lot. I can’t really crave anything when I am completely full with good food and it should be true for almost everyone. Even with an impressive dessert stomach. I can eat cake when satiated. Not when I am completely full.

Food commercials are why I love streaming video/TV that doesn’t have them. Especially bad for me if I am trying to fast.

I can browse recipes and do other food related stuff while fasting but TV has so many food ads I had to stop watching regular TV. I stopped watching food programs when Anthony Bourdain died. I do watch old segments of his shows, but not while fasting. I just have to hear his voice sometimes. :sleepy:
