Food Guide - Canada - Saturated Fats

#1

In Podcast 20 “The Big Fat Surprise” from June 26, 2016, just before the one-hour mark of the podcast, while discussing food guides, Nina Teicholz said that “Canada actually got rid of their caps on saturated fats last year.” Has anyone seen anything about this?

The Canadian food guide is here and it does not look to be keto friendly at all, and it does recommend low saturated fats:

Perhaps rather than in recommendations she means allowable food contents. (If that’s a thing there, idk)

Change is at a glacial pace, as all the nutrition and health authorities issue their recommendations, and harmonization takes a long time. It’s not just the canada food guide, but also other groups like heart and diabetes associations that have impact on issuing caps. There have been recent changes, if I remember correctly, like lifting the limit on whole, natural foods, like number of eggs eaten per day.

I am Canadian and am unaware of this but generally, I have learned to ignore any government recommendations when it comes to food. I don’t have time for them to catch up with the science and the reality of it all.
