Flying for the first time in almost 20 years!

#1

I’ve avoided flying for years because I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in the seats! I’m not exactly small yet, but I have lost 120 lbs, so am more confident now. I started out at 350 lbs and am down to 227 lbs. We are flying for a family vacation tomorrow. We usually just drive places. I’m nervous and excited!

It’s only a 4 hour flight, so I should be able to survive! Anyone know if I can bring an empty, clear plastic bottle past TSA and then fill it with water before boarding? I know I will need water!

I haven’t cheated since I have started and don’t want to start now! My biggest concern is that I find foods I can eat. We are not leaving the USA, so I expect it will be OK.

Kudos – well done!

I bring diet soda frequently on flights and never had a problem.

Again, that’s excellent to read. Besides, we make mistakes, and that’s OK as long as you get back on the horse.

I do better on low-carb when I travel since I’m sufficiently distracted by other things. Pork rinds are my friends when I travel abroad.

Yes, we are copiously blessed in the USA with the availability of food.

I’m tempted to re-assign your post to “non-scale victories” but there are so many threads here. I can personally relate to how lovely it is to take up less space.

You can take an empty clear plastic bottle, or an empty insulated SS container through security. Our airport provides tall bottle dispensers for filtered water, integrated into water fountains, similar to those now found in many gyms.

You should be fine. All of the airport shops are inside the security zone, so just buy an overpriced bottle of water there.

At 227 you’ll be fine. Over about 250 is where there are some comfort issues. Helps if you are under 6’ tall. Taller than that, you’ll have legroom issues no matter how thin you are, unless you pay up for the extra legroom.

They still come by and offer beverages in-flight (I usually go for coffee, water, or sparkling water) and some sort of snack (pretzels or peanuts - turn these down).

Thank you for your encouragement Screenack! We leave tomorrow and will be back in a week. I’ve been trying to get my house in order and help my teen boys get their things ready for this trip.

I am excited and a bit nervous about traveling and finding the food I can eat, but I can get creative when needed.

Thanks JohnH! Things have changed since I last flew anywhere.

I’m only 5’3" (female), so should have no legroom issues.

If your waist is under 46" or so, you’ll be fine with the seatbelts. If not, you can request a belt extender from the attendant when you get on. No need to be embarrassed about it. It’s the little loop of belt that they use to demonstrate the proper use of the seatbelt (well, before they just showed you a video).

As those belts get worn, they cut them and reattach the ends, so some are shorter than others. 5’3", planes were built for you. You’ll be comfy as a clam.

That’s good to know! I think I’ll be fine then. Thank you for that info!
