First, real, intentional, FAST!🤠

On the 18th, two days ago, that morning I decided to begin a fast. I was thinking of doing a 24 fast. I had my 500 calorie coffee, and was ready to go. Until 3 pm. I had already tried pinch of salt, a little bit of no salt (potassium) and even some ACV. But nothing helped. Just the urge to eat was so strong, I felt I needed to eat. I wasn’t really hungry. So I trusted the signal, had about a 1,000 calorie meal. Bulgogi, with onions and a tiny bit of carrots, so maybe 1 carb all together (as you know, I’m shooting for ZC), and 5 slices of bacon And the fat rendered from them. About 2 tblsp of coconut oil. Oh, and some Louisiana brand hot sauce. I ended up making a fat bulgogi soup. Mmmmm… it was delicious. Filled me up. It was now 4 pm. I was feeling great.

Next morning I passed on my coffee. I wanted to see how far I could push myself after having that feast. Come about the 24 hour mark, I checked my BG, as a preemptive check before eating again. It was 74. I hadn’t seen numbers under 90 in so long now (few weeks) it made my day! Enough that I thought, screw it! I’m not hungry anyway, let’s see just how far I can push this.

So the wife comes home around 8pm. Yep, I’m currently a stay at home grandpa, and she is working. Hopefully that will be remedied soon (especially now, feeling so much better without the extra weight slowing me down)!

First thing she wants to know is what I ate today. She’s worried about my diabetes, but doesn’t understand Keto at all. She see’s the way I’m eating and it confuses her. She looked really concearned when I told her I was fasting. Showed her my BG was still in the 70’s, that is extremely good, being insulin resistant.

So I maintained it a little longer. Made my own version of ketoade using ACV a couple pinches of salt, and a pinch of potassium. And some eurithrytol (I can’t spell it, and my iPhone came up with a few things I don’t dare postšŸ˜‚) and I was feeling really good still.

Got a late night call. I had to take care of some friends kids while they Went to the ER. I was sure the stress would cause me to break my fast. But it didn’t. I watched the kids (pre teens x3) from 9pm until 8 am. Although the kids stayed up much later than I thought, they fell out at midnight, 2 am, and 4 am, ranked by age. I didn’t feel sleepy at all, full of energy. I got to enjoy reading my kindle in quiet.

No drama due to the ER. Probably just the flu. Popped an extra 5,000 IU of Vitamin D3 when I got home🧐.

So I get a few hours sleep this morning. Dog wakes me. He needs to pee, and he wants me to fix MY BREAKFAST, because he gets to lick the plate clean. Bacon and eggs of course, his favorite🤠. I did some quick math, and realized it has been about 44 hours since I last ate. And I’m feeling so good still. So let’s see how far I can push this. I opted for the training wheels at this point. My fat coffee, with a non sweet tasing sweetener. I don’t know why anyone calls that stuff a sweetener, it was just enough to break the bitterness, but that’s it. So I’m thinking it’s safe to assume no insulin Pavlovian response from the taste.

So so far so good. I’m abstaining from the treats. I’m keeping calm, cause, I know, there is gonna be some drama today. There always is :sunglasses:.

You know what they say, when you can’t run, crawl, and when you can’t do that, well, you know the rest.

And this forum is adept at heavy lifting.

Keto Vitae!

[EDIT: forgot to mention, lost 3 pounds on my morning weigh in too!]

[EDIT: made it to 50 hours. I wasn’t really hungry. I was just timing. Had a good dinner. Ready to make attempt two!

Good luck. Just remember the pinch of salt trick instead of cheating :sunglasses: it really works.

I find myself losing track of when I last ate. My brain is telling me it is time to be social and eat. My body tells me I am not hungry. I battle this until body relents and sighs, I can eat some food, but I am still not hungry! I went 78-hours last time, hardly any effort!

I am 53.5 hours into my first fast and although I struggled a little when I got home from work yesterday, I am unfazed today! I feel like I can easily go another 53 hours, I will break my fast Thursday night and might support my boyfriend’s weekend fast by joining him.

Crazy thing is I’m even deeper in ketosis! I have never gotten myself to the darkest purple, but I’m there now!!

I have also gotten the deepest purps on the fast!

Cue ā€œSmoke on the Waterā€ …dahn dahn dahn, dah dah dah dannnn!

Oh, my, does that bring back memories of living in the Air Force barracks in 1981. I know, that’s from a lot earlier, but that was part of my collection of vinyl half speed masters.

Thanks @Carolus_Holman, I’ll be sliding down a rabbit hole going from Alice Cooper to ZZTop. And I’ll stop and spend a few hours in Budakan, cuz I can’t just listen to Cheap Trick once. I always had to spin that one at least three times before going through the rest of my libraryšŸ˜Ž

[great, now I need to explain what $8.99 on iTunes is for. I can get her now… ā€œHon, what is a Cheap Trick?ā€
Yes, I just went and bought ā€œat Budakanā€ on iTunes.

I purchased a ā€œGoogle Play Musicā€ Subscription years ago for my daughter who was lamenting having no money for iTunes, Best decision I have ever made. She listens to everything for $10/month. They give you 6 subscription licenses to share with friends and family. Glad you listened to those old classics. I saw Cheap-Trick on their ā€œDream Policeā€ tour, it was amazing! Enjoy!
