First readings (Keto Mojo)

(Fabian ) #1

After 5 weeks on Keto, I got myself a Keto Mojo meter and have done 2 tests so far (3 days apart), in the morning, fasted, one hour and a half after waking up.

I’m pleased with the results (Glucose 79 / 83), Ketones (2.7 / 1.6)

Unfortunately, I never checked my glucose levels before starting keto.
I’ve always thought I had a ‘problem’ with sugar and was possibly insulin resistant. Can those readings give an indication of how metabolically healthy I was before starting keto?

And would GKI be a good indicator of metabolic health in general?
Thnak you!

Not really, as you’d need to have blood curves to see what was happening. It could be that you’re in the low 80s, then have carbs, your blood sugar spikes, then crashes below 80, maybe into the 70s or 60s. You wouldn’t know that without testing.

I also saw someone who took a Kraft test (multiple hour with both blood sugar and insulin after drinking a drink of 75g glucose), and that person had a great blood sugar – barely moved. However, the insulin was off the charts high and took very long to come down.

That was a sign that the person had high insulin-resistance. Or as the late Joseph Kraft would have called it, occult diabetes. A sure sign that an actual diagnosis of diabetes was in that person’s future.

For historical reasons, we focus on the glucose, rather than on the insulin. But the Type I and Type II diabetes are two very distinct diabetes. The first is an autoimmune disease that takes away the ability to produce any insulin at all; whereas the second is a disease of an overabundance of insulin, caused by an excess of dietary glucose (also known as carbohydrate).
