First Ketone test

(Trace) #1

Hi, I’m new to keto, I started only five days ago, so far I’ve lost 8pounds, eating 70/75% fats aiming for 20% protein and less than 5% carbs.

My question is this, I just did my first ketone test and the result was a small positive, 1.5 mmol/L
Is this an ok result?

Thanks in advance

It’s a very good result. Anything .5 and above is good. Higher beyond say .5 doesn’t mean you will be losing more. Your job is to stay in ketosis. N=1. Tracking is good until you know what keeps you in or kicks you out. Keep it simple.

Here is a useful chart.

That’s a great start!

As @avocadosrule says, just keep an eye on what may kick you out. Using a tracker like the MyFitnessPal app can help with that as you can easily scan a barcode and get a pie-chart breakdown of the macros. I’ve avoided a few shopping disasters by doing that before putting something in my basket.

awesome. You’re doing fine then.

Are you supplementing magnesium and salt?

I’m adding pink Himalayan salt to pretty much everything, and eating moderate amounts of spinach each day, but not considered getting a suppliment. That may well be my next investment!
Thanks for the tips

good stuff. Natural, Real Food sources should always be top of the list so you’ve got that right with the spinach. I have recently begun to enjoy Kale, now that I know I can make it very tasty when fried in butter

@carl and @Richard often suggest supplementation in their podcasts and I ignored it and got some pretty bad muscle cramps. The diuretic nature of this WOE tends to flush them out more than when we burn carbs, so always worth considering them. The key is to listen to your body and if something feels out of whack then you may be deficient.
