Today I got a free A1C test that Costco was offering. I never had one until today (almost 11 months exclusively keto). It was 5.2. I so wish I had something to compare it to but none of my doctors ever felt the need to include it in bloodwork (and I had never heard of it pre keto so could never ask) so I don’t know what it was. Before keto I wouldnt have considered myself obese but always carried an extra 15-40lbs (it was such a large range due to dieting, exercising a lot, and calorie restriction which messed up my metabolism so I would gain the weight back very easily), and I definitely had episodes of hypoglycemia and would get hangry and would have to eat within 10 minutes of waking up in the morning. So there were some metabolic issues going on then but never really thought much about it, just figured it was because I was getting older (I turned 50 last September)
So, long story short, especially for newbies, get your A1C checked either before or soon after starting keto so when you have been keto for a while, you can get it tested again to see how wonderfully keto has brought that number down.
