First blood tests

(Robert) #1

Hey everyone, I haven’t had an official beginning of keto blood test to get a base line. I’m starting over and need to know what test to ask for so I can make sure I have the right baseline to look at.

Thanks!

I think lipids (cholesterol), Hba1c, insulin, liver function would be a good start.

GGT, ferritin, c-peptide.

If you’ll share your motivation for cutting out the carbs, it might be helpful for folks to suggest specific blood work to look for. Of course the usual stuff mentioned above (NMR Lipid panel, since you’ll be substituting fats for carbs, and HbA1c if you’re diabetic).

But if there are other medical issues that are motivating your keto eating program, would be important to consider getting baselines on those markers where relevant.

CMP and CBC are also pretty typical tests to check a wide range of health markers, but if you get an annual physical these are pretty routine anyhow - so you might already have this data handy.
