First attempt at bone broth

(Jake Burns) #1

I decided to try my hand at making bone broth for the first time. A friend of mine supplied some fresh venison bones with a some meat still attached. I put them in the smoker overnight and used applewood chips. Tonight I started them in the stock pot. What is the best recommended time? I have heard 12 hours and seem to remember Richard saying that he goes 24 hours.

It depends on the type of bones. Venison I would do at least 24 hours. Same with lamb and pork. Beef, moose or bison probably 48. Chicken 16- 20 hours. I do mine in a slow cooker though.

I don’t know how long it would be maybe 3-4 hours but I would pressure cook them. I do my chicken bones or wings in my instant pot for 90 minutes.
