First 48 hour fast

(Carl Keller) #1

Just finished my first 48 hour fast and I must say, it was not as hard as I thought it would be, Never in my life have I gone more than 24 hours without eating and the only way I ever imagined it was possible was if I were on Naked and Afraid. :stuck_out_tongue:

All my life, I thought ā€œfastā€ was a dirty word. Something that religious nuts or hunger strikers do but its effect on me was nothing short of physiological magic. I had energy just like I had when I was just doing Keto but this gave me an extra little kick of adrenaline. It was just like my brain was telling me: ā€œHere’s some extra energy and adrenaline to motivate you to go out and hunt us something to eat!ā€. So this is what it felt like to be a prehistoric human where a meal every day was not guaranteed.

I felt like I could keep going even longer but my original goal was to do 32 hours and I already pushed it well beyond that. So I ate… and it surprised me how delicious my steak salad was. I truly enjoyed it and I imagine it tasted just as good as wooly mammoth did after a few days of nothing but of water.

Anyway, what inspired me to try a fast longer than 24 hours was one Dr. Jason Fung’s videos about fasting. Everything he said about increased adrenaline levels, increased fat burning and increased energy levels is so true.

Right on man! Stoked to hear your thoughts when you try longer ones.

Thanks Roman. Might do a 3 day fast next week.

And welcome to Ketoville. Lot’s of cool and helpful townsfolk here. I’m sure you will feel welcome.

And that’s the hard bit, just getting to the end of day two. After that, it’s generally much easier.

Hour 25 was my toughest. My neice was making chocolate chip cookies and the aroma hit me so hard, it was making my mouth water. After I looked at the finished product I was able to say " ewwww" and the idea of eating some quickly went away. It’s amazing how we can train our eyes and stomach, but our nose has no clue about what’s going on. :stuck_out_tongue:
