Finally a sane keto forum

I was on another forum where everyone was an “expert” and contradicted all the other experts. I just read the “10 things I wish I knew” and “there is not rulebook”. This has made me much more comfortable and likely to come back to this forum.

From experience, I know my body responds to low card. Fifteen years ago I lost 100# on Atkins. It worked but I had two problems. Since I could eat as much volume as I wanted, I did. Yes, I lost 100 in about 10 months but I got used to gorging myself. I kept the 100 off for about five yrs, then it all came back when I ate “normal” (carbs, etc) and I continued to gorge.

There were a couple lesser losses that were short lived but in the end, I was back at 325 which seems to be my plateau along with weight related aching back and other health problems. I won’t go into the constipation and other back door issues that arose from Atkins as I’m sure no one want to hear that.

Five weeks ago, I was at 325 “found” the keto approach. I got past the keto, low carb headache for a few days an things are working. Today, I’m at 305 and find the increased fat consumption satisfies me and I don’t want to gorge all the time. The extra fat (pardon the pun) “greases the chute” so constipation isn’t a problem.

I’ve found some very good and sensible advice here, I’ll be back often but not for a couple days as I’m fasting and don’t want to read about any food.

My experience is somewhat similar. I did a low simple carb, high complex carb low fat diet with a ton of exercise 8 years ago. I dropped about 100 lbs in 10 months and kept it off for about 5 years. Then family pressure, work stress… I reverted. I’m almost 6 months into keto with a 1.5 week deviation ( little control of food options). Prior to learning about keto I Start back to low simple high complex carb for about 1.5 months. I’m down 65lbs and feeling good. This woe really agrees with me because my hunger is so manageable. Snacking goes away… skipping meals becomes possible… followed by fasting which gets easier each time you exercise that skill.

Welocome to the forum and keto on!

Welcome @Mglasbrener. This forum is truly a godsend. For even more invaluable advice, listen to the 2 Keto Dudes podcasts (links on homepage of this forum). I’ve been listening to at least one each night and I never fail to learn an unforgettable keto lesson each time. You’ll never fail to find common sense support here. All the best.

Welcome Jim! This is a great forum. I come here even on fasting days as it is very motivating. There is a lovely fasting section. Just don’t look at the What I ate today ongoing post as the pictures of food while fasting would be neck on ones fasted mind.

Welcome! This is an awesome forum, especially for the fact that we can share our different ways and ideas without getting on high horses.
And yes, beware the INCREDIBLE recipes! I’ve ended more than one fast when the word “chocolate” popped up!!

Hey Jim, welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face: There is an absolute ton of stuff to learn (if one wants to), but you sure look like you’re on a good path already.

327 was my highest weight at the doctor’s office, and I was a big gorger too, for many years. Keto sure does seem to help with that. Good luck and keep on…

I wonder if we were both on the same “keto Forum” because I feel the same way. Everyone is contradicting each other, and if you post a “dumb question” you´re bombarded by know it alls and sometimes rude comments. over there it feels like the only acceptable Posts are from People losing a lot. When you´re struggling , ist your own fault because youre doing this and this wrong and if youre losing Little ist not interesting. This is a much safer space.

I’ve been doing some IF lately and still on a stall. The other day I went in to the city and wandered around I must have walked for 5 hours, not hungry, no muscle aches and fine the next day. Yeah keto is great

That sounds like we’re exactly on the same forum. It is a facebook group forum
