Feeling rather sick the last two days

(Wenchie) #1

Hey guys, since about 2 days I am feeling rather sick. Just almost like I have a stomach flue… always on the edge of

Is this something comon at the point? (3 weeks in, 7,1 kg down) or am I just simply sick from something I picked up from the kids (but they are all ok)

I am also rather low on my kcal, but simply I feel full and not hungry at all. Am I doing anything wrong?

It’s not a common experience. What sort of food do you eat every day?

(Wenchie) #3

BP coffee in the mornings, some nuts over the day, meat, rocket, few tomatos, cauliflower, coco oil… nothing unusual

Maybe its just a flew… I just eanted to make sure I am not doing something very weong as I am rather new

If you are concerned about doing something wrong, perhaps you should read some of the posts in the Newbies section where experienced keto eaters emphasize that there is NO rule book. You seem to be eating right; I imagine your illness is not related to your diet.

I have been reading a lot of articles here, on other pages, I am currently finishing my second book on the topic, listen to the podcasts every day and am enjoying the heck out of them. :+1:t3::+1:t3: Also my partner @Groversaurus is rather experienced but nowhere have we ever heard of anything like feeling extremely sick, when you are full Keto adapted. Thats why I asked the community.
No, there is no rulebook, but sometimes people could just correct some habits and feel better (like people having headaches and being advised to eat more salt).
After all, every organism takes things differently, so I was simply hoping to find someone who might have had the same experience and could give me advice  Of course I searched the forum for related topics beforehand.

I decided now to give my body some rest by going into a 36 hr fast. I hope things sort itself and if it was a flu :mask: it should be done by then as well :blush:

I’m going through something similar at the moment. My stomach feels like it is churning, or about to start gipping. I think it might be due to the fact I had a couple of higher-than-average carbage days this week, and it might just be my body saying “why are you doing this to me?”.

Or, it might be because I haven’t had a coffee today because I’m trying to cut down for a couple of days.

I’m going with the carbage theory, as I’m ravenously hungry this morning and had eaten half of my lunch box already by 10:15, and I’m still trying to work out what my body is telling me. As I write this, actually I just drank half a cup of carbonated water with some Himalayan Pink salt in, and that seems to be taking the edge off.

It might be the plastic then :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The lid WAS a little bit chewy. I just thought it needed extra butter on.

(Jessica) #9

Hm… Can you please explain what you mean by that?

When I was a few weeks in, my stomach all of a sudden hurt like… Idk, it just hurt. In another group a lot of girls seemed to have that problem and they used ox bile and/or probiotics, because they said, sometimes the body needs to make more enzimes to be able to digest all of the fat.

I didn’t get any of that, it went away after 2 days. But maybe that’s worth checking out?

Like two days ago I sat in the office thinking- gah I have a very sick feeling and decided to have some nuts and water. It helped but after dinner that say I felt really unwell und stuffed (it was 100g of meat and 100g of cauliflower- so nothing drastic)

I felt very sickish all yesterday and really did not feel at all like eating in the evening/afternoon but I did because my calories are so low, so I was worried of my body going into starving mode and all this… I went for some nordic walking afterwards and when I came home and took a bath I felt extremely bad… and ended up actually throwing up.

Today I don’t eat and feel a bit better. I had some meat in the slowcooker that I can’t even look at. I wonder if my body just rejects all the fat (basically like how you just described it)
So you just stayed calm and ketoed on and all sorted itself? Maybe its just another adaptation step… or maybe just really a flu :mask: I could not find anything about it

That’s actually funny because I am craving Joghurt badly… i so want Joghurt :joy::joy: I am glad I can be very sure I am not being pregnant or I would be very suspicious :see_no_evil:

(David) #12

When I want a yoghurt, or yogurt, or joghurt (depending on where you are from  ) I like to put a little vanilla essence, or orange essence in some double cream or extra thick cream.

(Wenchie) #13

Do you? Lol as I haven’t served you Joghurt (good German Joghurt :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) like this before? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: thanks for advising me my own recepies silly :kissing_heart:

Plus it was about the probiotics… for that you need yogurt :space_invader:

(Jessica) #14

There’s actually supplements for that as well.

But… maybe greek yogurt (10%fat) with whipped heavy cream mixed in and walnuts…??

I also thought about making my own yogurt (man, now I’m confused) at home with HWC as a base instead of just milk. But that would take time, I think you need a special device and also I have no clue how to make it.

(Wenchie) #15

I actually dared to have some Quark (40% fat :joy::joy:) with a bit of cream and I allowed myself some blue- and raspberries
I am sort of staying away from greek yogurt because I am worried I would eat to much having it at home :see_no_evil: But yes, it’s probably what I should get more.

(Jessica) #16

Give it a try. But really - I’m not convinced that’s the solution. Your stomach will tell you.

But if it doesn’t go away I’d see a doctor.

(eat more) #17

i know ppl are using a slow cooker and the Instant Pot to make yogurt, so if you have either of those google away

i keep reading this thread to poke memories (mostly trying to remember how long i had been doing keto when they occurred)…
i know that i did have a few weird days…one day i even had a bite of something (almond butter i think) right before leaving for work and threw up…the other days my stomach was just funky and bathroom visits were “different” and more “gotta go now!”…
i don’t have a cause or remedy…i figured there was some adjustment going on that caused it…i just ketoed on.

(Wenchie) #18

This helped my dairy cravings today. Just some feta with olive oil and fresh basil :herb: nom nom nom

I’m doing an extended fat-fast at the moment and I feel better after feeling roughly what you described. That feeling gets more pronounced as I do feasting before and after fasting and at first I thought it was just from the total volume of food, but given the general tendency for all of us to have insulin resistance, I’m beginning to wonder if that “feeling” is a steady rise in basal insulin since it is so pro-inflammatory and inflammation seems to be the cause of or correlated with many disease states.

In the past when I just just learning and experimenting with LCHF, a 2 day overdose of carbs, ALWAYS and I mean always ended up with me getting sick, usually an upper respiratory infection or a sinus infection, but something always happened. While avoiding carbs, I’ve seen many illnesses go through my family and pass me entirely or effect me on the most minimal level.

Whenever I read about someone feeling ill at your stage of adaptation, my first suspicion is low sodium.
We often THINK we are taking enough, newbies often aren’t.

Be sure and spread sodium supplements throughout the day and don’t overhydrate(“forcing” fluids further dilutes your sodium. Just drink when you’re thirsty. I carry water everywhere I go.)
