So far, after reading everyone’s suggestions I’ve added bone broth (@ 2 cups daily), am waiting for my electrolyte pills to arrive on Monday, added salt to a glass of water or apple cider vinegar twice daily, am eating my asparagus for one meal and my riced cauliflower for another because it’s just what I want right now, have my little bowl of berries (1 cup in heavy cream) daily, pumpkin seeds for a snack and noticed as of today I did not have a bout of that crippling exhaustion that I normally do. Let’s hope this is lasting! I know I’m not eating the amount of fat and protein that I should but am still staying under my 20 carbs and I actually feel satisfied. I wasn’t starving at any point today so this is good! Also taking @ 2 tbsp. MCT oil a day to help with fats and I add grass fed butter to my veggies. Fingers crossed.
Feeling like a non functioning keto”er”
Just an update because I felt like shouting from the rooftops this morning but knew my neighbors would not share my excitement… the scale went DOWN. After over a month it finally moved a considerable amount ( which at this point would be anything over 4 oz). I had a really rough week last week and carbs were winning. After working long hours all weekend and getting minimal sleep between shifts I woke up Monday morning feeling the opposite of good and energetic and ketones at .4 ( the lowest since I’ve started) I decided to get my act together. Berries got the boot ( for now), I cut the HWC that I had been using with my berries too. I decided my mindset of trying to get away with eating almost no carbs all day so I could splurge in the evening is detrimental to me even if I stay under 20. I almost bought strawberries last night and have no idea really how I made it out of the store without them. I guess the war going on in my head about whether to get raspberries or strawberries and the overwhelming indecision it created due to carb calculations distracted me enough to allow me to escape.
I really got a lot of inspiration from the threads here yesterday and especially one about doing keto half way the second and third time around. I don’t want that to be me, it’s hard enough THIS time! I don’t want there to be a second time.
I’ve been adding salt and electrolytes but can’t say I feel more energetic. My collagen should arrive today or tomorrow. I’m going to try to eat salmon almost daily and eat more red meat and see what happens. I’m hoping this will help keep me from trying to find so many of those “carb substitutes” like brownies and fat bombs. I’ve found those are not a good idea for me right now. I’ve also cut out most of the stevia and xylitol I was using which I feel is increasing my carb cravings.
Cross your fingers for me. It seems that staying in Ketosis (except for Monday) has been the ONLY easy thing about this for me. Staying in Ketosis does not always mean that one is eating the way they SHOULD. I’ve definitely realized the difference.
Yeah, I don’t think this would go far toward winning people over to keto.
Glad to hear you’re progressing, @Smartypants1274. At least I hope you are. It’s been three days since you posted this. Sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it.
Thanks dic 96! I ended up losing over 2lbs this week and was so excited! I will probably level out again for awhile now but I hope it doesn’t take me another month to lose another two😬. I’m within 3lbs of my goal weight but would not complain if I lost a few more- it depends on what my body decides it’s resting weight is.
