Feeling lightheaded and dizzy six + months in

#1

I have been doing keto for over six months and have lost 35 pounds and several sizes. I am happy with this as I am 61 and have bad knees so I am not doing a lot of exercise. I eat twice a day…5:30 in the morning and at dinner time. I eat about 1200 calories, sometimes a bit more. I drink my water and love this diet. I have been feeling lightheaded and dizzy on occasion, I use salt and take magnesium. Any idea as to why I am feeling this way?

Normally, I’d suggest more salt, but if you’re already getting enough, I don’t know. What is your blood pressure? Are you on BP medication?

My blood pressure is good, no meds. How much salt should be consumed per day? Thanks for responding.

Is the dizziness at all related to your position? That is, do you get dizzy when you stand up, or come back up from bending over?

If so, that might be an indication of low blood pressure.

The PURE study and others suggest that we are our healthiest when we get 4-6 grams of sodium daily, which translates to 10-15 g of table salt (NaCl). The good news is that when we get enough sodium, most of us no longer need to worry about potassium, magnesium, or calcium, since the bodily mechanisms that regulate them are all interconnected.

Thank you, I have upped my sodium and calories and I am well and losing again.

Glad to hear it!

May need to up the amount of your food intake with a little more meat, fat and a little more carbohydrates?

It could be a hypoglycemic like response to reduced calories for too long a time or your thyroid is out of whack? Either way you may need to eat more food?
