Feeling hungry after two weeks

(Alejandra) #1

Hello! I’m new here and I have a question.
I started the Keto diet 2 weeks ago and I’ve been counting my macros since day 1 and after 2 weeks today is the first day I’ve felt really hungry, I feel like i haven’t ate for a extended period of time and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve been eating my vegetables and drinking my electrolytes. Any thought on what it could be? Thanks

Please be more specific about what and what quantities you’re eating.

Your proteins and fats are more important then your vegetables; so, as amwassil as aptly said, until we know what foods you are eating specifically and in what amounts, we cannot really determine what is happening.

Welcome to the forum =).

I’ve been eating eggs, bacon, avocado, ground beef, chicken breast, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, pork rinds, cheese, butter. I’ve been cooking with coconut oil, avocado oil. I’ve been snacking on pork rinds, cheese and sometimes macadamia nuts.

My macros right now are 1783 cal 145g fat 20g carbs (usually I don’t hit my carbs) 100g protein.

And thank you

A good rule of thumb is if you’re hungry eat more. If it were me I’d stop the chicken breast, spinach, asparagus, broccoli and pork rinds; then eat more eggs, bacon, avocado and ground beef. A couple times per week I’d add some nice oily fish like herring or salmon. If you can’t live without veggies I suggest you try bok choy. :slightly_smiling_face:

That looks good food wise. I would not worry about calorie limits for now and just keep carbs under 20 grams eating what you need to be satisfied for the time being. Your still getting used to fat as fuel so don’t let yourself be hungry or you will slow the fat adaptation process. :cowboy_hat_face:

Ok I’ll definitely be following your tips. Thank you!

I find whenever I get hungry, adding more healthy fats always helps. =)

So eat, your body is asking for fuel.

I agree; if I were just starting and feeling hungry, I’d eat more at my meals vs. incorporating snacks. Plus, my suggestion for people just starting is eat three meals/day for the first couple of weeks, even if you don’t want to. I never ate breakfast before, but I did after just starting keto. Three meals/day really helped me in the beginning get over cravings and hunger. After a couple of weeks of doing that and feeling full satisfied, I had no desire to eat that much or often and dropped breakfast and many times lunch without any problem.

If you do this, I don’t think you will have any trouble making it until your next meal. Macros can be a good guideline in the beginning (at least for me), however, don’t be a slave to them. Eat enough and enjoy your meals, in spite of your macros. This will level off naturally after a while.
