Feeling cold

(Bob M) #21

I started fasting about 3.5 years ago. Originally, I could get cold at some point during a 4.5-5.5 day fast. Then I started getting cold during my 3.5 day fasts. Lately, if I attempt to fast 22 hours (which is basically one meal a day, OMAD), my hands get so cold I can’t touch myself. And if I try to make it 36 hours, I have to have a bunch of covers on me at night, in the summer.

As soon as I eat, I get warm again. That is, my hands return to their normal temperature.

So, I’m giving up on fasting until this effect goes away. I will eat when I get hungry.

I’d bump up the calories in your case - sounds like a chronic slowed metabolism brought on by fasting either too often or without enough of a “feast” afterward / between fasts.

Hi Chris, that is the conclusion I’ve reached too. I’ve also been doing a home improvement project all weekend, every weekend, which I’m sure uses a lot of cals, and I’m back up to 3 days exercising per week. So, I’m trying to eat twice per day and get a lot of food into me. The problem is that I eat “blunch” (don’t eat bfast) and then I’m not hungry for 8 hours. I eat as much as I can when I eat, but then I literally can’t eat anymore. It’s odd.

Yup. From a logistics POV, I’d love to eat OMAD. So much easier. But I’m finding that even on 2MAD I can’t get enough food in, so I really have to work at 3MAD, which is annoying from both a time POV and wanting to IF.
