Feeling a little down

(Ellen) #1

Feeling a bit blue at the moment, fairly sure it’s just life stuff rather than the start of another depressive episode (hoping so), but the old part of my brain is yelling for “comfort carbs”, am not hungry & don’t have carbs in the house but hoping can resist, I know that they won’t make me happy.

I guarantee you will get through this more easily holding strong and keeping your brain as happy as possible with keto. It is so hard though and that spiral is so easy to slip onto. Just stay strong for one day at a time. Can you think of some other things to hit that comfort spot? From someone who tumbles down that spiral often, much love and hugs. xxx

This is such a great way to be most of the way to winning this battle already - the harder you make it to give in (i.e. the more things you have to do in order to be “bad”), the more chance you won’t. Smart person.

Also, the subject line made me think of someone patting a little duckling

I felt like I was getting sick a few days ago and told myself I could have all the mini peanut butter cups left over from Halloween handouts. (My housemate eats them). Then I fell asleep instead and was SO, SO thankful the next day. If you eat carbs you’ll have yet another reason to feel crappy. Stay strong.

I do let myself have comfort low carbs, like keto hot chocolate or chai tea with hwc. Sometimes you just wanna snuggle and feel better. Take care.

Feeling Blue can be so hard to deal with, I would guess particularly hard without sugar. So smart not to have carbs in the house. Stay strong, remember your health is forever, problems will eventually resolve themselves.

I tend to eat a bit more dark chocolate when I’m down or maybe some more butter, but I’m so glad I don’t seek solace in pizzas and donuts anymore.

Thanks Daisy, I grabbed some of my old favourite books to re-read.

Gotta love dad jokes

I think this is common for a lot of people @Elle79 - it certainly is for me, the emotional eating vicious cycle is always there ready to grab you and start bringing you down.

I have good days and bad days too, I have confectionary, alcohol and carbohydrates all tapping on my shoulders at regular intervals when life is going to sh@t - hope you get through it and find a more positive vice to rely on when it’s hitting the fan!

tomorrow is a new day!

Think I’m more lazy than smart, if it’s not in the house the odds of me getting dressed & going out are (usually) pretty low.

(Running from stupidity) #13

You’re leveraging your laziness to your advantage, which is smart.

Hang in there Ellen.

I’ve had moments like this. I’m a building inspector so some people aren’t exactly thrilled when I show up. That can be a tough way to make a living, but after 10 months of keto I am finally getting to experience the “mood stabilizing” aspect of the diet. That helps keep me stay focused and I think that builders have really noticed how much more positive and friendly I am. Now 99% of them are actually happy to see me when I pull up to their jobsite, which in turn makes me even more positive and happy.

Logging that to use for one of my end quotes - love it.

Saw a double rainbow earlier, it did make me smile.

My favorite comfort no carb food:
AVOCADO! with a bit of salt
Makes my brain feel good and me too

Yummy

This is so hard. I just want you to know that even though I don’t know you, I am here for you. The carbage won’t make you happy, despite what your brain tells you. Is there someone IRL you can talk to? Go for a walk with? I just want to send hugs and love your way!:orange_heart:

Thanks Amanda, have had a chat with mates today and if back stops playing up will go see them next weekend.
