Fatigue when starting out

You’re awesome! I’m not sure what that means good or bad? Am I supposed to be in a newbie part of this?:joy: Old-ish infantry Dog… OP observation post, area of operation? Thanks for the smile. I’m sure everyone here can understand my new found level of irritability…this to shall pas I suppose. What’s a South Texican BBQ without potatoes, beer, and beans!

I felt off for the first month, now I’m 3 months in and feeling fine.

I still do get fatigued when I don’t sleep enough and stuff like that though, can’t really ever escape that feeling no matter what diet you’re on. It happens.

Dizziness, insomnia, brain stupor…all part of the magic huh? I feel so much more than off. I suppose previous life choices are coming back to haunt me during this transition/transformation  honestly only fatigued during workouts. My congratulations for lasting a month through it!

Thanks everyone! I think it is an electrolyte issue… I have been taking a liquid supplement in my water but I suppose it’s not enough.

I take 4000 IU of vitamin D, B complex, probiotics, omega 3 as well as the electrolyte replacement right now.

As far as fasting blood glucose goes, I have been testing and have been between 4.1-4.4mmol (normal range in Canada is 4-7mmol)

I have been testing my ketones daily and have been between 0.5-1.5.

The reason I added an Apple (some nights) is because I have been having trouble sleeping due to the decreased carb intake I think. I don’t really have weight to lose so I thought adding some extra carbs wouldn’t hurt since my fasting blood glucose and ketones have been in check every day. I am 5’4 and 115 pounds.

My current macros are as follows:

Carbs - 15-20g daily

Protein - 52g

Fat - 104g

If you have any other suggestions please let me know

I’ll tell you - some nice fatty brisket and ribs! Once you’re in deep ketosis, I’m sure others here will tell you an occasional beer is OK (although Jack & Diet Coke is more keto friendly), and there is actually one variety of beans that is actually so high in fiber it comes out very low in net carbs, but the pintos & spuds have gotten the boot for the most part. Personally, I’m good with just the brisket & ribs & a pile of sugar-free cole slaw. I’ll sneak in my keto bbq sauce as well. :smiling_imp:

I’ll do some recipe research, there is light at the end of tbe tunnel😀… I’ve been craving breads and tortillas so badly I could commit a crime! J/k sort of…

Heh me too, I looked at the local supermarket ad and they had a 300 pack of corn tortilla on sale for $1.50… if only I wasn’t on keto, I’d be in quesadilla & taco city right now. :stuck_out_tongue:

There are some decent bread recipes out there - not like wheat-based bread, but decent; I’m still looking for a reasonable tortilla. Some people don’t think you should use whey protein isolate, but I’m thinking that might end up being the “magic ingredient” to make some good ones. Coconut flour is definitely out.

Mission makes a low carb tortilla, or more specifically high fiber. They advertise it as 3 net carbs each (for soft taco size). I use them for tacos every once in a while, and I don’t seem to have a blood glucose reaction.

Of course if anyone knows that their claim is bogus, I don’t want to know…just give me this one vice and let me live in ignorance

I used to use La Tortilla Factory’s low carb tortillas and they were pretty good. I’m really trying to stay grain-free, but if I don’t find a keto tortilla my hubby will eat, we may have to use these for a treat once in a while.

You rock

I use these too and they are good. I sometimes fry them, snipped into smaller bits, in bacon nectar to use as chips. They are in Safeway and I’ve seen different brands in many western state supermarkets.

No apologies needed…you are welcome here. I ain’t no expert on this but the advice I’ve heard has worked for me - drop carbs, too much protein may interfere, if you’re hungry eat fat, drink water, use salt on your food, in your coffee, or use alone. You are the expert on how you feel.

my experiments show Almond flour - fine milled, makes for better baked low carb. Quick fix for the early on transition away from ‘white stuff’ like bread is a recipe called “90 second almond flour mug bread” from a site named - headbangerskitchen.com.
I’ve also seen an almond flour recipe for crepes - may be a substitute for tortillas? or might need some tweaking.

I really love this term!! I will use this from now on

Nebulous is correct, other hinky stuff still happens…it is a transition, you’re asking your body to make a major change, you’ll get there.

I’ve got the Ole wellness spinach herb, and wheat something or another. High fiber, they claim 5g net? Can i trust this? I’m finding late in life these labels are trash. Who knew so many hidden ingredients and "nutrients " detrimental to your health are added to so many products. My biggest struggle is 4 tacos maxes my carbs and it’s impossible for me to reach >2k calories!

“wheat” in label = not keto.
Oh and watch out, I know everyone is different on the ‘protein whey’ and ‘protein isolate’ items - I cannot take those at all.
Fiber = also very individual. if I’m having “fiber problems” (no poo) what works is 3 tablespoons Avocado oil morning and night.
You are correct – labeling is some crazy game nowadays. If you can’t understand the ingredients - keto or not - put it back.
