Fat: The Fight of My Life

While channel surfing this morning to put something on on the background while I tidy and clean up I saw this :-

Fat: The Fight Of My Life.
Personal Trainer Jessie Pavelka travels to Northern Ireland to help 36st Geoff Trainor, who gained weight following years of takeaways and binge eating. The 44-year-old rarely leaves his house following taunts from the public, and is desperate need of a confidence boost and a healthier future.

Of course there was only a cursory glance at food in the first 25 minutes, however he just said “I want Geoff on a low-fat, low-carb healthy food”

It’s on Pick this morning (9am Sunday 2nd April), and there’s another episode after this one, and then it’s ‘The Biggest Loser USA’

That was a disappointing programme. Both episodes the ‘subjects’ had psychological issues with food, but were never referred to a psychologist. Nor was any blood tests done, or any discussion of what the diet they were put on or the nutritional balance of the food.

It was all CICO and working out two hours a day for five days.

Very disappointing.

I’d love to see one of these programmes where it wasn’t a personal trainer who has never struggled with weight in their life, but an ordinary person who has gone through the same massive weight loss themselves.

@carl when is PWOP going to get into making TV shows? Lol. I know you have the face for podcasts but it would be good if you had kept a video diary of your progress over the last year or so.

not completely the same thing but there are trainers gaining weight so they can experience at least some of what their clients go through
Drew Manning did it and then recruited other trainers for a show…he’s also keto
there might be a season 2 coming
(episodes on itunes also)

it would be interesting to see all of the CICO, Biggest Loser, Extreme Weightloss Makeover trainers go keto…but that prob won’t happen and they’d lose sponsorships :joy:

Later today and I’m watching “Monkey World” and they are dealing with an overweight Capuchin that likes to go around and finish off all the bananas at meal times. One of the primate care team said “we’ll separate her at some meal times, and get her away from some of the carbohydrates, and hopefully she’ll lose some weight.”

Why is it that animal carers understand that it’s the carbs?

Here’s a little medical joke for you. “What do you call a vet that can only deal with one species of animal?” Answer:“a GP”

That’s really interesting, but they are coming at it from being ‘healthy’ fit already. They are gaining weight deliberately (so I would like to see what they do to gain weight). I maintain that seeing someone who got fat/obese ‘The traditional way’ and then educating themselves and shedding it would be interesting TV.

from the episodes i’ve seen intentional overeating of high carb/fat fare and enormous quantities…like almost to the point of vomiting and/or passing out.
i think drew said that until he did the experiment he had no idea how unfair he’d been to so many clients and that it was HARD…,even tho the trainers had the previous fit state on their side

I’ve bookmarked it, I’ll give it a watch when Monkey World has finished, while I do my ironing.
