Fat adaption question?

(Alex) #1

hi everyone. quick question: i’m on day 46 of keto and i don’t believe i’m fat-adapted yet. once i get there, though, should i continue to consume the same amount of protein as i am now before fat-adaption, and just lower the amount of fat i consume? or should i reduce both protein and fat if i’m not feeling hungry? ill obviously always to keep my carb count under 20g so no questions regarding that. i’m consuming 3 meals a day currently, but once i’m fat-adapted, if i only start consuming one or two meals a day, i’d like to know how to adjust my macros accordingly. thanks in advance for any responses!

When I became adapted I wasn’t exercising, so I just dropped dietary fat from my diet and ate the same amount of protein, obviously less food as I was only eating once or twice a day.
Now that I am exercising I have increased my protein and my dietary fat is extremely low as I am trying to shred and build muscle.

So short answer is yes, you absolutely need to begin adjusting your macros as you reach goals and your body composition changes or you lose weight.

One thing that prevents someone from becoming adapted is metabolic damage.

Metabolic syndrome is characterized as three of the five following: High blood sugar, Excess stomach fat (abdominal obesity), Low high-density cholesterol (known as HDL), High blood pressure, High triglycerides (fats produced by the liver when dietary sugar and carbohydrates are too high)

can i ask what your current daily fat and protein intakes are? i know we’re two different people of different genders so we’re obviously going to have different macros, but i just want something to use as reference from someone who exercises / is fat adapted. today is the first day i’ve actually tried listening to my body since starting keto. i was making myself eat 3 meals a day, always one right after my workout, but today, i decided not to, and i actually realize that i’m not hungry at all. and i’ve already jogged and weight-lifted, and my energy is still great, so i’m thinking that i may be fat adapted / may have been fat adapted for a bit now but just was unaware of it. if i were to literally only consume my daily protein macro today, and keep fat to a bare minimum (since i still have body fat that i’m trying to get rid of anyway), would that be okay? i’ve been consuming between 150-170g of fat daily since i started keto, but if i am fat-adapted, i could ideally consume 1/3rd or 1/4th that much fat as long as i’m getting enough protein, right? sorry for the super long comment lol

Honestly I’d love to share that information but I no longer track food, macros or calories! I just simply don’t need to. I go by how I feel.

Yes  If you feel you are closer to adaption just drop your fat and if you do get hungry just eat more fat, and keep going.
