Fat adapted now

(Carrie) #1

Hi
9 weeks keto.
I think I must be fat adapted now, I’ve had a cold and used several Lemsips without thinking about their carb content (10g each).
It’s not changed my ketone stix, so I reckon maybe I’m established now

Do I have consistent all day energy?
Can I go long periods of time without being overly hungry?
Are my cravings gone?
Do I sleep well?

If you can answer yes to those, then you are most likely fat adapted.

Well, I don’t know about the craving part. I have to admit I still have sugar/carb cravings; the difference is that nowadays the distinction between them and real hunger is quite obvious. But the rest certainly applies.

Can you become fat adapted in a few weeks? I’m not ready to run a marathan but I feel pretty darn good, physically and mentally.

Then I will have to amend my template to say “Are my cravings gone or easy to manage?”. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve totally lost my cravings for sweets.

(Carl Keller) #6

I won’t say it’s impossible but I’ve yet to hear of anyone who didn’t have to wait at least five weeks.

I’ve been Keto/EF for six months — up to 4 and 5 days fasting at a go and still walking a few miles regularly without tiring. Guess I’m fat adapted for sure.

As for the cravings, it’s mostly mental and wanting fried foods and potatoes. The only sweets I’ve caved into was a soft serve ice cream cone one night out. And I look forward to my main goal (7 pounds away) so I can have that big chocolate malt I’ve promised myself.

I used to love my fried foods and potatoes and I thought I would eventually go back to them in very small quantities and very infrequently. I did actually have a few bites of garlic mashed potatoes and a piece of breaded fried chicken about a week ago and I can say that they weren’t like I remembered them. I thought they were both very bland while everyone around me said they were both delicious.

I’m certain my taste buds have evolved and when I now see something that looks really good like fresh baked bread, cheesecake or anything fried, it’s easy to dismiss the illusion of it looking scrumptous.

That is great. I consider myself a sugar/carb addict, and cravings are part of recovery from addiction. They’ll go away, eventually. But right now, the doughnuts my niece brought home are sitting on the kitchen counter, calling my name. . .

It’s not usual, but on the other hand, it’s not a binary, on/off state, either. So if you’re feeling good now, it bodes well for how you’re going to feel in a few more weeks!

Both times I’ve become fat adapted were 5 weeks each time, so yes!

(Carrie) #12

Because I’ve not been well (hence the lemsips) I cant really tell if I’ve had an energy shift, my sleep is disrupted by sneezing and headaches so I’m hoping perhaps I’ll feel great next week.
Hope so!
I certainly haven’t been hungry or craving anything for a couple of weeks. But my weight hasn’t shifted at all, hit a plateau, now I’m ill. So I’m honestly a bit down about the whole thing, but hopefully if im actually fat adapted now, and I start to feel better next week I will find a way to push through the plateau and crack the plateau!

Last time I tried ice cream at a restaurant it was almost tasteless and I blamed the variety chosen by the restaurant.

Tonight I tried another small cup of soft serve at another place and again it was bland.

Either my taste buds have changed or there’s a lot of crappy ice cream out there.

It’s a good thing they were bland.
