Fasting with multivitamins

fasting

(Brie) #1

Hi there,
I like fasting but have noticed I feel super duper sick when I take a multivitamin on an empty stomach. Like dry heaving throw up stomach acid sick =(

I have heard that it’s good to take one when fasting to cover the loss of vitamins and minerals, but does anyone have any thoughts or has this as well?

I have a thought.

Multivitamins contain various plant-sourced nutrients that, in general, are not readily usable by the human body. They also make you feel bad.

I’d avoid. All you need is water and salt. You won’t develop a deficiency after a couple of days, if your diet is already in shape.

Thank you, and thanks for the quick reply!

Great idea, I have Himalayan rock salt in the cupboard. :grinning:

Haven’t broken into long fasts yet, maxed out at 49 hours last time, so if I go longer I’ll come back for more info.

Yep. Steak.

I would get sick too. For short fasts, less than a week, I see me reason to take a multivitamin.

Just wondering if the multivitamin had a high iron content which could upset the stomach. I also tried the multiV during fasts and didn’t feel great. I tried some with separate vitamins, like calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, b12, etc and was fine during my fasts. Lately I just do salt water fasts with a bit of potassium bitartrate (which is just cream of tartar) sometimes I add AVC. This makes me feel more balanced. You’ve got to try a few things to tweek what works for you. Good luck!

I find that I can take any supplements I want while fasting as long as I follow them with a cocktail of 2tbls of AVC, 1 tbls magnesium citrate, 1/4 tsp pink salt, 1/4 tsp of no-salt, mixed with 8-10 oz. of electrolyte water (chilled or room temp). Chug it down as fast as you can and get it over with. If you are afraid of diarrhea then cut out the mag citrate.

This briny mixture will help you eat up and digest any supplements you swallowed earlier. It also fills you up for several hours.

Apple Cider Vinegar is the bitter nectar of health.

I’m currently 47 hours into an extended fast, hoping to hit at least 72 hours. I have been taking a prenatal supplement each day just because I expect to start trying to conceive in a few weeks. Luckily, it does not make me sick, but if it did, I would probably cut it out. Good luck!
