So, I’m about 30 hours into an unintentional fast (meaning, usually I’m OMAD, and even that is unintentional. I don’t go out of my way NOT to eat). Currently, I could eat, but -also- I’m not hungry. Now, I may have technically broken my fast with a teaspoon of MCT oil in my coffee this morning. Should I eat a little somethin’, or is it fine just to keep on truckin’?
Fasting Question(s)
Dr. Jason Fung, the fasting guru, advises not to fast longer than about 72 hours, except under medical supervision.
Thank you, Paul! I am confident I will be hungry before then, knowin’ my cravings! LOL
Don’t hesitate to see how long you can go, but don’t make it a test of your endurance. When it feel as though it’s time to eat, eat!
It depends. For someone underweight I would advise to eat…
If you feel okay, a few days should be fine. But don’t think that not eating without hunger is a good idea for everyone. I need to eat without hunger too - but I have my other urges to eat. Some people don’t and they starve with its negative consequences without noticing. Eventually you should eat but you surely know that I wouldn’t worry about my metabolism for a few days but then I personally would stop. Many are fine with longer ones, it’s up to them but if you aren’t familiar with fasting, you probably shouldn’t do that…? The big fasters on this forum (if not doing very long ones, doing shorter ones regularly and read and experienced and heard a lot about it) surely could help more.
What does the two have to do with each other? You have the thing I have that appetite (the desire as for some strange reason many people use the word for hunger) has a chance to trigger hunger? Well it probably makes perfect sense and even more common in people… I find it often problematic, my poor hunger gets unrealiable due to this. I may be not properly hungry just fancy food without need… It’s good I have my “need to refuel” signs too (weakness and stuff), I tend to follow those, not hunger and definitely not desires unless they are too strong so I have no choice…
Oh but even if you end up with just a couple of days, be careful with your first meal, don’t overdo it. Again, I am not the most knowledgeable as I rarely do such long ones and then I just eat whatever I fancy and it’s fine but it’s not typical, it seems.
I would advise to eat, at least protein and fat if you are ‘trucking’.
And apologies if that is just a euphenism, and not your real job!
