Fasting , push through the hunger?

Can you do intermittent fasting even if you are hungry like just push through the hunger or is that bad because it puts your body in starvation mode . I was able to fast a few weeks ago , my numbers were high on my keto moniter and I feel like I finally got the hang of keto, hardly eating and going very long periods of time with little or no food but the week after it shifted and now I still eat about 3 times a day , although I’m still not as hungry as I normal would be if I was offf keto I’m just frustrated because I was able to not eat and have keto numbers in the 3-5 range. Now I eat and have lower numbers .9-1.3 :frowning: I know it’s still keto but I’m not in the optimal range

Fasting is different than restricting calories and shouldn’t harm the metabolism in the same way. As fasting isn’t just for people on the Keto diet, I’m sure many do just power through hunger.

That being said, for me it’s a no go. I feel that fasting should come naturally and follow the Keto rule of “if your hungry, eat.”

Starvation mode could also be said as a state of autophagy. As a person becomes fat adapted, their eating should become more intuitive. You should know if you are hungry and need to eat or if the hunger will pass in 30 minutes and you’ll be fine after that. I would take time and research what the “keto numbers” actually mean. I just listened to a podcast, Human Performance Outliers featuring Dr. Benjamin Bikmin and he addresses how poor those numbers are in telling a person if they are in Ketosis. He is a cutting edge metabolic researcher and can explain why having the “right” numbers might represent a person less in ketosis than a person with lower numbers.
