Fasting for religious reasons

#1

While almost all of you are fasting for health reasons, fasting has historically been associated with religious observances. Moslems during daylight hours of Ramadan, Bahá’ís for 19 days during daylight hours, Hindus, Buddhists and many Christian denominations fast in different ways for various faith-related reasons. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fast once a month for 24 hours, abstaining from all food and drink. They are expected to donate the cost of the food they would have otherwise consumed (or “much more” as urged by a past Church President).

Coincidentally, diabetes rates are lower in Utah than any other state.

Fasting is good, but dry fasting isn’t healthy for you, very hard on your body if you have to work or be in a very hot climate. That’s the problem I had with Ramadan. It makes you feel bad. :cowboy_hat_face:

It is as hot as it gets and pnety humid here in Houston… so I don’t exert myself outdoors while dry fasting. The 24 hours once a month is not difficult. I often do 16:8 for a week or two.
