Hello All New Guy here, New Guy Keto, New Guy IF. I’ve been doing Keto for just under a month about 3 weeks and I’ve lost 16 lbs so far. A few questions on Fasting and Fat counts and hunger. I have read several say that fats are simply there for satiety. I have been fasting for 4 days at 19:5 and realistically I unintentionally end up using an OMAD because I eat such a big meal that I’m really not hungry and I may force feed my self something right at the end of my 5 just to get in a lil more protein fat combo (chicken thighs or eggs/bacon). Furthermore I’ve only hit 18 grams of carbs combined in the last 48 hours. Is this ok or am I setting myself up for a starvation mode rather than fat burning mode. For the most part I have not been too hungry with the exception of this morning. If I can push through the hunger with straight black coffee is that ok or do I need to add fats, if the hunger isn’t really uncomfortable is that ok or is my body asking for something? Sorry for the long post I’ve read a bunch of great advice here but there were some specifics I wanted to ask.
Fasting, Fats, Hunger
No thats fine 20g per day is a max not a target.
If you’re not hungry then don’t eat especially not if you have to force it.If you are hungry then eat providing that you know it is hunger and not just habit…
In regard to fasting and hunger then, will there be times I need to push through that hunger even if it is a bit uncomfortable or should I feed even if it’s a few hours before I typically break that fast? Occasionally this has happened but subsides after about 30min to an hour.
If the hunger subsides after 30 minutes or say a big glass of water then its probably not “hunger” but more habit? I’m not sure exactly what you mean…
You’re probably interpreting stomach rumbles as hunger. If you’re stomach is making noise but you’re feeling good energy still then you’re not really hungry, your stomach is just empty. But if you’re feeling like you’re running down on energy it’s time to eat. That would be my interpretation. In the modern world there’s so many snack foods that it’s become part of everyday life for most people. It’s almost like people are afraid of feeling their stomach empty and need to put something in. Stomach emptiness is something to learn to look past, drink some water and a pinch of salt. If you forget about the “hunger “ it wasn’t real.
Yep that helps quite a bit. Regarding energy I haven’t struggled much but the stomach will make noise and rumble but it usually subsides in about 15-30min I did have 1 day where I was feeling a little dizzy but I only got in one meal the day before and I had planned to eat later that day but missed my time slot. Thanks for the info.
