Fasting BS rose from 80 to 105

I am a month in. This morning my ketones were .5 and FBS 105. A couple weeks ago my FBS was usually 75-85 but my ketones were non existent. Is this a thing? BS goes down during day to 90 and ketones go up to 1.0+. Is this a thing?

Yes it is a thing, google the Dawn Phenomenon - in some people blood glucose rises in the morning before they wake, ketones will be correspondingly lower in the morning as well. I tested twice a day for a month and my evening ketone readings were nearly always higher.

Look at it this way…how cool is it that your body is able to give you energy to start your day (in the form of a little more blood sugar) without you ever having to eat carbohydrates or sugar!

Chasing blood sugar levels is often a futile practice. Unless they are chronically elevated or elevated for a prolonged period after meals, you shouldn’t overly concern yourself. A better marker to follow is fasting insulin

Hi and thanks for your response. I guess you’re right, I just thought that my FBS # would stay low like it used to be. I wonder what being in ketosis has to do with that? Does ketosis provoke a Stronger dawn effect than normal?

Dr. Bernstein has a take on it here https://www.diabeteshealth.com/can-you-please-explain-the-dawn-phenomenon-and-how-best-to-manage-it-2/

He explains that the liver clears insulin at that period and some of us are unable to adequately compensate for it.
