Fasting blood sugar

(John Pizzuto) #1

I had my yearly exam shortly after starting keto this April. My fasting blood sugar was 116, so I guess I’m pre-diabetic. 73" tall. My weight is 208 now, down from 233.

The lowest I’ve seen my glucose was 92, my ketones were 3.0.

I eat one meal a day. I had a small steak and an egg at 3PM, then six hours later my glucose was 116, ketone was 1.1. Nine hours after that (sitting in front of the computer) glucose is 115, ketone is 1.2.

Does this mean my insulin is too low to clear the glucose?

I know, I should do some pushups or something.

You sound in great shape to me. I wouldn’t worry.

If your doctor sent you for blood work, do you know what your HbA1C score was? Also your ratio of triglycerides to HDL? Those would be good indicators of how well you are doing.

Paul:

Thanks for your reply, sorry I didn’t see it until now.

I had my first physical in several years in late April. My triglycerides were 27, LDL was 21, VLDL was 5, HDL was 43.6, ratio is 1.61.

My AST was 49, so I guess that means fatty liver?

I had been on keto about a week, ketone reading in urine was 1+.

The previous month I was doing plant based, one cup of beans, one cup of rice per day, in one meal.

Really strange results yesterday. My blood ketones have been running about 1.0 for months, my glucose was 93 one day last week, but it’s usually between 100 and 110. Lately have been eating one steak a day, no carbs. Yesterday I had a couple bites of watermelon and cantaloupe, plus 5g of chocolate around noon, then a steak at 8PM. Six hours later my glucose was 136, ketones down to 0.3. Yikes.

Glucose was 108 this morning, ketones 1.0 again.

Those numbers are absurdly good. Yay for you!

As Siobhan Huggins at www.cholesterolcode.com just pointed out in another thread, liver enzymes can be elevated for reasons having nothing to do with liver disease. Liver fat and the bad visceral fat are apparently one of the first fat depots to be metabolized, so I would suspect that your liver is probably in good shape at this point. KCKO! :bacon::bacon:
