Fasting Before Ketosis

(Ed) #1

HI There,

Was just wondering…

In Dr. Fung’s book, “Obesity Code”, he talks about how the body wants to stay in homeostasis. He shared research about how researchers restricted the caloric intake of overweight people and the body started burning less calories. On the other side, they fed a really skinny guy a ton of calories and the body revved up what is was burning…

So…

Let’s say the body burns 2000 calories a day

Should you wait until you are in fat burning mode before you start intermittent fasting? That way the body will continue to burn the 2000 calories even when you are fasting.

I know my thinking is probably flawed…

If I start intermittent fasting before I am in fat burning mode, then the body burns less calories. Let’s say 1500.

Then when I get into fat burning mode, it will burn 1500 calories.

Crazy thinking!

Someone set me straight!

That is where dietary restriction (calorie control) and fasting differ. Intermittent fasting doesn’t mean you restrict your calories just that you restrict your eating window. By eating only once or twice a day you limit insulin responses to food so can access fat burning quicker. IF can in fact help to boost your metabolic rate according to Dr F… longer fasts maybe even more.

Thanks for the response.

I meant intermittent fasting where you also cut down on the caloric intake.

That’s why feasting goes hand in hand with fasting…
