Fasting and exercise

I dont fast and dont really plan to. I do however like going a day without food and just having a large fat laden meal about 8.30pm before bed. I do find myself hungry during this time and am wondering how those of you who fast still manage to exercise? I know from reading about keto that you are in ketosis when you can power through a work out fasted and i still do exercise through hunger but just wondering how you guys do this and what work outs fast time do you do?

I think you’re confusing ketosis with being fat adapted. You can be in ketosis but still unable to power through a workout if you are not yet fat adapted. Being fat adapted allows you to use dietary and body fat as an energy source. Being in ketosis is the first step towards this. People can take 2 weeks to 2 months to become fat adapted through continued nutritional ketosis, some longer still.

Are you eating low carb, moderate protein, fat to satiety? If you are hungry then you probably aren’t eating enough fat. Fat is your friend. If you are not eating breakfasts and lunches you are doing IFing on a 24 hr. fasting schedule or near it depending on the exact time you are eating.

When I do extended fasting, I feel great doing my strength training. I’m an older woman so it isn’t a taxing as some younger folks would do, but I love it and how I feel doing it fasted. I have been fat adapted for almost a year now. And there is a difference between fat adapted and in ketosis.

The question I believe was how do I get through a workout? Honestly, for me, I have never been beholden to food prior to any exertion. Even as a carb burner I NEVER ate prior to any workout, marathon or century. Tuesday I did chest and lats at 48 hours fasted, yesterday was leg day at 72 hrs. My answer is will. Because I want the gains, the feeling of conquering, beating my limitations. Will has much to do with it for me. Now you might ask how can I develop the will? That of course is in the philosophy forum.:sunglasses:

I also concur with what was said before me for those who do need to rev up.
