Fasting all the way to goal weight

Hi Keto Family

Is it possible to fast all the way to your goal weight? Let me explain exactly what I mean. I know that fasting takes off AT MOST .5 pounds per day. But if you do extended fasts frequently, can you drop 100 pounds? Has anyone tried this? I am not talking about fasting all the way through for x many days to lose 100 pounds, but I am talking about frequent (like 1 or 2) extended fasts per week with a good healthy refeed of nutrient rich keto foods in between each one. Fasting seems to work really well for me. The weight is coming off (it wasn’t when I was doing strictly keto) and even with healthy refeeds of 2000-3000 calories per day, I dont seem to gain it back if I go directly into another extended fast. OR is it more important to use fasts sparingly and just focus on getting good keto nutrition? I have about 70 pounds to lose for health reasons and I really need to lose it quickly (need some surgery but can’t do it until weight is under control) .

  1. How much of that weight would I gain back once I started eating again? It seems like I could keep it all off it I adjusted my eating to eat at my new maintenance weight
  2. Would doing this much fasting hurt my metabolism?
  3. Is it better to just eat keto and extended fast once a month

Anyone out there who has used extended fasting to get to their goal weight and was able to keep off the weight once you got to goal?

On the last Obesity Code podcast, the woman they interviewed was fasting 5 days then eating 2 days since May. She had lost either 50 or 70 pounds (I can’t remember).

Fasting is the best weight loss method.

Very little if you keto on after your Fasting.

You would think it would, but it is the opposite.
Your metabolism is better fasting (no calories) than Calorie restriction.
To be fair I find all the reports about metabolism conflicting.
I will say this … Fasting doesn’t reduce your metabolism any more than any other weight loss method … and it MIGHT be better than other methods.

No.
Not for weight loss.
In general.

The fat is put there for you to be able to fast.
Use it or gain it !

WOW, do you have the link to that episode? I can’t seem to find it. Was it the woman who was fighting cancer?

Thank you so much. I am going to try to do it as often as possible. My body starts to SING after the third day. The second day sucks, but that third day is gold. I really want to get this weight off so I can have a hernia surgery as well as a procedure on my knees. I continue to suffer because Docs won’t do anything until I am no longer morbidly obese

Thank you. I heard about his success. I was hoping to find someone who was living and breathing this right now. I would reach out to this guy if I knew how to reach him (and given that he is still alive). I am going to need alot of coaching through this process

It’s the pilot episode of the Obesity Code podcast (available on Stitcher or iTunes) featuring Marie Drake. Yes, she’s a breast cancer survivor. If I recall correctly, she did 5 fasting days and 2 feed days for 6 or 7 times.

I’ve done well with alternate day fasting 2-3 times a week. For example, after supper Sunday, fast until lunch on Tuesday. Gives me a 40 hour fast. I do either Mon-Weds-Fri or Tues-Thurs. Psychologically, it’s easier for me because I know I can eat tomorrow.

@Goal179 take a look at Andrea’s posts (her user name is “Yayhowfun”). She’s posting these days about exactly this strategy - fasting to your goal weight with just a few meals here and there. Others who have done something similar are on those threads as well.
It does seem to be an effective strategy, especially if you’re already fat-adapted and slip into fasting easily.
