Family before and afters

I have been going through boxes lately, trying to purge our home of all the extraneous stuff we have been carrying around for years. Over 10 years ago we went to the Space Center in Houston and I got suckered into paying for this family picture

That, without a doubt, is the photo I have of me at my largest. I think was only ever about 2 pounds heavier than that. No wonder it’s been sitting in a box for 10 years. I remember being in denial when I saw that. My husband isn’t fat per se but you can see he has a full face and the start of a thick waist. My poor little son was on his way to having obese put in his medical chart at this 8 year old well child visit.

A year later I started to very slowly drop weight. Following is a photo of me and my family as I’d taken off about 65 pounds. RIGHT before we cut out sugar - which effectively put us on keto.

At that point, we’d increased our dietary fat, cut out grain and seed oils. You can see I am still technically obese, my son as a slightly full face but is not chubby any more and my husband is down about 10 pounds but has some skin inflammation.

And here we are this past August after doing HFLC (mostly keto for me) for the previous 17 months. I am a normal BMI, my husband is down another 10 pounds with clear skin, and there is no evidence that my son was ever an obese 8 year old - which he was, even though he wasn’t an over eater at the time. Some of us just do better with low carbohydrates. My son takes after me apparently.

This way of eating can make a difference for everyone in a household. I don’t know that my husband would have gotten bigger over time or not, but he sure feels better with the dietary changes.

Anyway, I love looking at everyone’s before and afters so I thought it would be fun to post some a family.

PS - and that is 1990s James Bond in my middle picture!

Uh, His name is Remington Steele.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
And for a brief two year time span he was my son’s granddaddy - alas, not a role that he will be remembered for, but it was fun while it lasted.

Wow, this is an incredible pictorial. Love it! You are a beautiful woman - and that hair - spun gold!

All of you look so fit, attractive and happy. Very inspirational.

Thanks! That picture makes my hair look golder than it really is - it’s actually mostly silver, but it reflects light really well so that back drop is what is making it look like gold!

(Marianne) #6

It actually looks strawberry blonde. Very pretty.

It was when I was younger! The top photo was my natural color before I started going grey. “Going grey” has been a weird experience. First my hair turns from it’s natural blondish red to pitch black and few days later it goes silver. So I have photos from the last couple of years where it looks like I have black highlights.

For real!? Do you have a picture? I’ve heard some people who have had a severe trauma have had their hair turn white overnight, but I thought this was just an urban legend.

You can kind of see it here.

Wow ! All of you look SO much better :slightly_smiling_face: Congratulations. Wish you all continued health and happiness :slightly_smiling_face:

Looks like you had professional low lighting done - people pay a small fortune for that!

I love this post so much. Thank you for sharing!

That is really inspirational. You all look so happy. How lovely that your son now has such good nutritional knowledge so young.

Great story, and great pics! You all look incredible!

PS I THOUGHT that was Pierce Brosnan! #silverfox

PPS What was the show? Do we get to see your son on Netflix?

(Jennibc) #15

It was “The Son” which had two seasons on AMC - both seasons are now streaming on Hulu. I wish it were Netflix, but AMC will no longer license their content to Netflix because since Netflix is now doing original programming they see them as a competitor - at least that’s how the network execs explained it when they were deciding whether to go with Amazon or Hulu. Of course, now both of those streaming services are creating original content. It’s a supporting role, but it was fun and he did 14 episodes out of the 20. But you can see him on Netflix in other shows - he had a very small role in Better Call Saul Season 1 and he did a lead in a kid’s film that is still streaming on there.

I don’t know what low lighting is but I am pretty hard core about not paying a fortune for anything - I only cut my hair like once every four months because I am so cheap!

Inspiration oozes from this post!! Thank you so much for sharing. It really helps some of us that struggle with wanting instant gratification! You and your family are gorgeous :heart::heart:

Thanks! I am so glad you find it inspiring, that’s the big reason why I post things. We are all in it together and I want everyone to succeed! I remember years ago getting discouraged by the slow rate of loss. I think it would have been easier if I’d heard stories from people who took a long time and finally got there. That would have been encouraging. I am glad I stuck it out, and I hope to encourage others to do the same.

This is incredible! Your family is so inspiring.

I have lost 50, and my husband is down 30.

This is our before.
And after (after we both had massages.)
