Fairlife protein

(LS Conway) #1

My son had these at his house and I was yay! 30grams of protein. Course I looked at the ingredients. Is it worth the ingredients to get the protein in this and the low calories?

I know eat more protein, but I can’t eat tons of calories.

Thanks!!

If it meets your needs, why not drink it? Though the fact that you are asking us tends to indicate that you have your doubts about this product.

My question would be how complete the protein is, since any essential amino acid not present in the correct proportion is going to limit how much of the protein can be assimilated. To be fully utilised, the amino acids would need to be present in the same relative proportions as they are found in beef.

Lol! Yes you are correct !
Thanks for replying!
I am doubting because of the not great ingredients.
Don’t know the science behind the protein though.
It is good in coffee!
Speaking of coffee and another subject. I looked at the nutritional info on my black Americano and it said 3 carbs!! Had no idea I was drinking carbs when drinking my coffee. Now to do some research. I drink a lot of coffee. Apparently espresso has 1 carb per pour.:upside_down_face::upside_down_face:

Where the carbs came from in your americano, I don’t know. The U.S. Department of Agriculture claims that 100 g (less than half a cup) of brewed coffee contains 0.17 g of carbohydrate, whereas the same amount of espresso contains 1.67 g (of course, the serving size for an espresso is normally smaller than that).

The USDA has a database called Food Data Central, in which many products can be looked up by name. So you can check brands and compare them.

Thanks!

Hey, if you decide to try this product, let us know how it works for you. And if you decide not to, that would be worth knowing, as well.

But you don’t need much calories for protein… Don’t you like any lean protein sources?

About the protein product: I don’t even know what exactly some ingredients are but most sounds okay-ish… Only that I would avoid it as it tastes awful with those sweeteners but that’s my taste  Nothing I consider a dealbreaker but I can eat normal food and minimizing my protein intake is my serious mission now. But it’s not about me. So IDK but if it would help me while being not this actual me, I wouldn’t worry much. But I wouldn’t use it regularly.

I would think every protein product takes care about that… Maybe I am still too naive? But it’s so easy to take care about it and people often know the basics so I suppose it’s usually okay.

Yes I love protein and don’t eat any veggies except on rare occasions. Mainly cause of carbs. Started measuring my HWC today to see actually how many carbs a splash is. Ha! Found that my splash is a tablespoon.
Trying to figure why I am not losing like I should. (Or want to…)
I figure I need more protein, so I was looking into this product. Seems I could tell my clothes were a little looser after our trip this weekend.
I know this is all over the place. Ha! Didn’t use HWC this weekend cause they only had half and half. Didn’t use sugar free coffee flavoring, but did use this protein drink for that.
Just trying to figure things out and don’t want to eat yuck ingredients. Stopped a while back on any “keto” bread. Look at all ingredients in anything processed, like beef sticks and stuff.
I have done great and happy… just want to not mess up and lose faster.
Sorry long… thank y’all!

Unless it’s my old inaccurate kitchen scale (I don’t have new battery for the new, good one and the old accepts the batteries not full enough for the other one), I managed to put the same amount into my pudding and about a dozen coffees today… Wow. I got scarily good at ridiculous cream portions… I used to use way more especially when I whipped it… 100g cream lasted for a(n admittedly very joyful) minute.
It’s good one can train and change.
Some can get off with plenty of cream but some shouldn’t eat like that.

Am I reading this correctly, that it’s just milk giving you the protein? How does one get 30g of protein from just milk?

#11

They’re fine, I buy those for the case for my kid cuz it’s an easy way to sneak protein into him. Plus they taste good. But my issue with them has always been where’s the protein? The low fat milk isn’t doing it, they don’t show any added Whey or anything so… where’d it come from?

Other higher protein drinks/shakes like it usually show Whey as an ingredient, which makes sense.

On the rest, Cellulose gel is used to thicken stuff, as is carrageenan, the lactase enzyme making dairy more absorbable, only thing in there that’s not great is the Ace-K, but insanely small amounts of it are in there and I don’t overthink that one. Not great, not horrible like people want it to be.

That’s been my issue with that one since the beginning, doesn’t really add up. 120 cals would get eating up by protein alone and that leaves 30, and 11.5 ounces of milk would be over 100.

(Bob M) #13

Yeah, I looked at about the same amount of liquid in just milk alone, and it was a lot less protein. Like you, I expected the second ingredient to be some type of protein, like whey. But it’s not.

(LS Conway) #14

Yeah now that y’all mention it, where is the protein?

(LS Conway) #15

I looked it up… there is more explanation on their site, but don’t know if I can post the link.
In a nutshell:

instead of adding protein powders to increase protein content, fairlife uses a membrane filtration process, which separates out different components of milk based on molecular weight, and then recombines them to create ‘designer’ products with >50% protein and 50% less sugar.
