Exercise and ketosis- stop or continue?

exercise

Ok so I’ve been keto since January and been working out running and lifting weights the entire time. However I have had this struggle of reaching my goal weight and it’s because of my muscle gains. Which it’s great to have muscle but i want to focus mainly on fat loss since my wedding in a month away now. Should I stop lifting? Should I focus on running or more cardio/HIIT? Should I stop working out all together until the wedding? Blood ketone readings are higher and I feel more strongly in Ketosis when I dont exercise, which of course is such an amazing feeling!

Why are you letting the scale dictate? More muscle is a good thing both for fat loss (it burns more calories due to increased metabolism) and for overall health.

Blood ketone readings being higher means nothing, just that your body isn’t burning them as fuel.

What Allie said!

I concentrate more on what my clothes are telling me than what my scale is saying. My scale lies; I think it hates me. And since I can now fit into clothes I haven’t been able to wear in years, I’m happy!

I would definitely ditch the scale, keep up the lifting, and maybe add in some walking a few times a week or easy cycling. If the scale goes up but the inches go down, then you are losing fat and that is what you want.

What @Shortstuff , @PaulL @Sheri_Knauer said. Ditch the scale it’s pure evil :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. I’ve also heard (somewhere) that cardio works better on keto than strength training? Any input on this from the above mentioned?

HIIT works better on keto I believe, but not steady state cardio.

Ditto. How the clothes fit.

And for how you look. (TBH, I’m not sure that muscle burns MUCH more energy, but it can’t hurt, right?)

Actually, they do, and exercise will help give them more mitochondria to do the burning. There is some way to get fat tissue to starte metabolizing fat as well, but I don’t believe that even the most active fat cell burns nearly as much as muscle tissue.
