Excited to join you all

Hi All,
I just joined and am so glad I found a forum like this. I started Keto August 2018 and as of today’s date, have only lost 6 pounds. I almost gave up yesterday as, I can’t even explain how discouraged I feel. I’ve been different forums where all I read is how much everyone is losing, both pounds and inches, how great they feel, etc…and I get even more discouraged and start feeling like something is wrong with my body…that it won’t let go of the weight. I haven’t cheated and have been so strict with all of my food choices. I couldn’t figure out the apps on my phone, so I haven’t used them to track my exact macros…which, I’m guessing has been my problem. I’ve done IF and Egg fast, exercise, drink all kinds of water but yet…I’m sure I’ve been over on all my macros. Anyway…before I think of quitting, I needed to hear encouragement and support from other’s that know how I’m feeling…so we can support and encourage each other. Thanks!

It certainly doesn’t help in terms of diagnosing the issue, as if you’re not tracking, it’s just guessing, really. It also doesn’t give you any data to look back at.

I use Cronometer, and find it very easy to use, and about as accurate as these things can be (i.e. it’s not just a database that anyone can put any old incorrect data into).

Bottom line when starting is eat as much food as you need to not feel hungry while keeping your carbs under 20 net grams. All the rest is details for a future date.

Also, remember that most people show you a highlight reel, not the nitty-gritty. Everyone reacts and changes differently, and women often struggle to shed the weight as quickly as blokes #becausewomen

For some reality, I suggest the accountability sub-forum here. You’ll see weight getting around all over the place.

My (new, work-in-progress  basic rules to start:

  1. Clear the house of carbs (if possible - not essential but if you can, it really helps)

  2. keep carbs under 20g/day (vital to make sure you do this)

  3. track your food intake (this teaches you what is and isn’t sensible to eat in terms of carbs, and is great for planning your food for the day)

  4. eat plenty of real food (keto is not a calorie-restricted eating system) and don’t worry about “eating enough” fat or “eating too much” fat. Your body won’t let you eat too much, trust me. Smash the protein (assuming you’re not diabetic/insulin resistant).

  5. Take supplements (or at least extra salt)! Super-important to stay feeling good!

  6. Ketone numbers are not an arms race. If you’re in, terrific. If you’re not, time to get the carbs down, most likely, or start searching for other solutions (see above point about tracking).

What Juice said. I would add one more thing, Keep it simple, don’t try fancy stuff or replace sugar with sugar free sweeteners, or store bought Keto snacks. Just real food.

How much are you trying to lose? Someone with 100 lbs to lose will drop a lot more weight and inches than someone with only 20 to lose.

If you have a lot of weight to lose then perhaps your body is healing internally before burning the fat.

Welcome. I’ve been on for 8 weeks and have lost between 7 and 9 lbs depending on the day. I read about people losing 50 lbs in 4 months and it sets my blood pressure rising. I read about people who adore this way of life and when you’re not losing like they are, it’s hard.

However, you’re not gaining, right? I am convinced that if I quit, I’ll gain again at an alarming rate. I’m doing this for my health and hoping it pays off.

This forum is awesome though - be choosy as to what you let “get to you” here too. There are a lot of helpful and supportive people.

After reading a lot of posts it seems like if every person who didn’t see results on a scale quit this way of eating, many folks would have missed out.

There are other ways to tell. For me, my stupid bras don’t fit these deflating boobs. Or the waistband of my pants is looser. But I’m still “obese”. Are you seeing any other signs of weight loss?

I second this. I believe a lot of people trip up their progress trying to find substitutes from the standard western diet, instead of just focusing on what they can eat with keto.

Makes keto and this forum kind of counter-productive.

Too true. I wish people could focus more on the NSV’s then just the weight loss. Each, individual body is so complex that we can’t simply gauge one person’s success, by how much they weigh.

One more thought to add…not all of those “spectacular” weight loss stories are true. Yes, plenty of them are, but keep in mind that this place is still the internet and not all that you read is true. Some people will post false stats because they need the attention.

Consider this… quitting puts you right back on a high carb diet and there’s zero chance of you losing any weight without cutting calories and driving your metabolism lower and feeling like utter crap. One thing that convinced me that Keto is not a diet, it’s a way of eating, is the energy I feel on a consistent basis. No more roller coaster rides of high and low energy that a carb based diet is notorious for… no more cravings, and much greater mental clarity. That right there is worth the price of admission.

Keto has allowed me to take more control of my brain. Conquering my body is going to take some time, but I know that if I stay true to this WOE, the scale has only one way to go.

It’s a self-administered healthcare system. For both the short- and long-term. It needs a snappy name
