Enforced home cooking side effects

#1

Just dragged my self here with a cramping left calf muscle.

Some night time leg cramps recently. What is going on?

I remember this from starting out on keto in 2014.

It’s this home cooking and eating of high nutrition meals. Plus some regular exercise.

I thought I was at maximum electrolyte supplementation, especially magnesium. But I am not. Have been here before. I can take more magnesium citrate as I have not reached gut tolerance threshhold. Gut health is amazing at the moment hardly any need for toilet paper.

These observations are all a reiteration of when I was younger and much keener about the keto WOE. Back when I felt amazing and I was on an exponential curve of regaining my health.

This staying home, cooking from fresh, locally sourced (and bartered) whole foods, getting regular exercise and regular 8 to 9 hours sleep is wonderful. The world is changing inside this body.

Same here!
And some odd hamstring soreness as well

For me, I am going back to the VERY basics
My limited food choices aka. #lazyketo :+1:
My previous salt intake during non eating windows
And I will try to mimic my previous wake up schedule

Sounds complicated now :weary:
Drats
I quit

Not really

I can and will adapt quickly

I’ve been doing low carb/exercise for 2 years. For the past year I’ve been in retirement mode. One of the lessons is most modern work is not healthy. We already know the food offered to enable that work is also not healthy. Because of the diet and exercise I look unusual for a 71 year old. 150+ years ago, before cars, tractors, electricity or processed food guys my age and my condition would have been a common sight. It wasn’t that long ago.

I have restarted my exercise regime, and for a couple of days I felt like I had been run over by a truck! But it was just my muscles getting used to it again! I’m feeling good now. I’m no athlete, just doing an hours pilates, or some other exercise dvd and an hours brisk walk each day (when I’m not working of course). Also a few hours gardening or cupboard sorting!
Also I used to do a lot of eating out. Even though I made good choices, I feel better for doing my own cooking.

I am eating the same as all of my meals are at home or packed from home before the outbrake anyway. Although I did start carnivore three weeks ago. I miss going to the gym but have been maintaining my 4.2 mile run every other day at 4:30 am. I think I am going to need to try to impliment some sort of body weight resistance workout routine soon. Anybody have a favorite? I would like something that can be done in 30 minutes.

Same here, Jackie! The last three days I’ve been FaceTiming my mum while we both do one of her exercise videos (her class teacher has sent her some digital videos, so we piggyback our screens for those and have a really good laugh). It’s a three-parter, so a warm-up first - I don’t get on with the second part, which is aerobics, because it’s do this twice, do that twice, then go back and do something completely different four times (I can’t keep up - it does my head in) - so for that 20-minute section I jog on the spot (varying my position on the carpet so as not to wear it out).

It’s reminded me how much I used to enjoy my running - so that’s a brilliant side-effect!

I have yet to get the courage to actually go out during this lockdown. And I feel I’m pathetic to feel so panic-stricken. Still, I’m getting fresh air from popping out into the garden to empty the compost/fill up the bird feeders/toss mealworms to the blackbird/top up the bird baths and breathe, breathe, breathe.

Aww bless you @KetoSnaps and everyone who is scared! Haha about your carpet! Maybe you could get a trampet from Amazon!

LOL! Not really ordering anything online at the moment, tbh - and I’m so tall that I’d knock myself out on the ceiling if I’m bouncing on springs and elastic!!! I think I’ll put a mat down for tomorrow’s carpet jogging - in fact there’s a carpet offcut under the bed that’ll be just the ticket!

Haha! Just picturing that :joy:

Magnesium helps me with cramping. I have to take quite a bit to not have cramps, and it’s magnesium citrate in pill form. Titrate up to find your sweet spot.

Angstrom/nano magnesium is cellularly absorbed (under the tongue) and one teaspoon works within minutes - without the long journey through the gut and without the risk of what happens when you take too much and it finally reaches the lower GI tract. It can be found on amazon, also from a main producer’s website - angstrom-minerals.com
