Elevated blood glucose throughout the day

#1

Hey Guys. New to the forum so be gentle. :grinning:

So I have been doing LCHF/Keto and IF for about four months now (since April 1, 2018) when I was diagnosed with T2D. I’m pretty sure that I had already been diabetic longer than that and was just in denial. Anyhow, I have since lost 50 lbs and my A1C when diagnosed was 10.5% and three months later, it was down to 6.5% so I’m happy that’s going in the right direction.

The only thing that worries me is the fasting blood glucose that’s still high throughout the day. In the morning it’s about 7 to 8.5 mmol and in the afternoon around 5 pm (before my meal), it’s about 5.7 to 6.5 mmol. I am pretty much doing one meal a day (OMAD) so my IF is about 23 to 24 hrs daily. I have of course read about dawn phenomenon, glucose sparing, even the effects of stress and sleep with regards to blood glucose imbalance all of which could be what’s happening to me. So my question to you good folks, is this still something that happens to some of you? I really want to take control of my health again so I was just wondering how long it took you guys to reverse your T2D so I could at least have an idea. I like being in ketosis and doing IF and would like to keep this up forever or at least use a variation of it after I’ve fixed my health.

Just to add more info to this. I’m not taking any meds even though my doctor prescribed Janumet in April and now just Metformin  I’m also not taking any insulin. I want to fix this naturally with diet and lifestyle and not via any drugs. :sunglasses:

For a diagnosed T2D controlling with diet that’s not bad at all! Give it time, and also know that eating normally raises your levels less than slamming a days worth of eating into a very tight timeframe (or one meal). Going 90% of the day without food doesn’t change the result of a days intake at once.

Thanks for the info Ifod14. On the weekends, I usually don’t do OMAD. It’s just easier for me to do during the workweek when I’m busy at work  When I do check post prandial (1 to 2 hrs) after my meal, it’s usually doesn’t go above 6.7 mmol. Not the best numbers but could be worse.

I’ll probably do some “hacking” and change my IF protocol and maybe try eating twice a day for a while and check my numbers after.
