Hello I am 8 weeks into keto. I am not overweight but simply living a good lifestyle as I have MS and doing well. However my ALT was recently Elevated Could this be due to adaptation to new diet ?
Elevated ALT
I had it, too, and my functional medicine doc who is also keto, said it’s the new diet and not to worry. We’ll recheck later but that’s the info I got.
What was your ALT level and what is the normal range listed on the lab results?
Keep in mind there are things which can cause slight elevations in liver enzymes (like your ALT). For example (when taken within a certain time frame before your blood draw), some over the counter medications, some prescriptions, and alcoholic beverages.
So, the meaning of your ALT elevation can vary depending on how far out of range your values are, what other possible causes you can rule out, if the rest of your lab values are normal or not, if you can rule out possible liver infections, etc, etc.
Did your doctor say anything to you about your high ALT? He/she should take into consideration all the other things going on with other test results and your medical history to help you understand if there is any reason to be concerned.
Hope this helps.
Mine was up, too, but I also started a new med that can increase that so doc will be monitoring it monthly. Fortunately my elevation wasn’t large enough to worry about at this point.
