Electrolyte Minerals

(Wallace) #1

Been tracking my food on chronometer for a while and my average numbers are

Sodium 3700mg
Potassium 2300mg
Magnesium 225mg*

  • I take a magnesium supplement as well…

But I don’t know if I am getting sufficient potassium and/or sodium…

I have heard potassium is shelf regulating and all you need to worry about is enough sodium and magnesium… according to virta health 3,000 -5,000 mg sodium is sufficient…

Any help appreciated

Getting enough sodium, which is the easiest to manage, will make it easier to keep magnesium, potassium, and calcium properly regulated, as well.

According to a couple of studies that came out a few years ago, we are healthiest when consuming 4-6 grams of sodium a day. (That translates to 10-15 grams of table salt a day, including any salt already present in food.) This is considerably more than is recommended in the government guidelines.

A forum search on any of these minerals should turn up plenty of threads about them.

Stephen Phinney recommends a bullion cube dissolved as a warm drink daily while in a low insulin state. That’s worth looking into.

There is some good information here https://youtu.be/gObdQHecGcA

Darryl is a Redmond Real Salt employee (family member, his Grandfather started it all) and explains the balance pretty good as well as some ideas on how we get out of whack & why table salt isnt always something you want .
