EF while not fat-adapted yet

What happens if you do EF but you are not fat adapted yet? Would it be dangeous? Would you still lose fat?

Not eating for 2, 3 or 4 days was likely not an uncommon occurence in the history of our species. So it happening occasionally was most likely a motivator for us to find food. The problem is if this happens on a regular basis. Our body will probably sense that famine is about and start slowing our metabolism to make up for the constant caloric deficit.

However there are freaks of nature like Angus Barbieri who fasted for 382 days without ill effect and much to the astonishment of the doctors who observed his vitals along the way.

@CarlKeller That’s pretty crazy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Did you notice his hair had significantly grayed during that year, at only 28. Unless of course he was dying it when the first pic was taken.

Indeed. Had the gap in his front teeth not given him away, I’d swear they are two different people.

This is really interesting. I’d like to know more about the rest of his life, how long he lived, if he kept the weight off, etc…

I don’t think dangerous, just not as comfortable since your hunger will be stronger.

I kicked off a diet in college with a 3-day fast and it was very difficult but I managed.

Much easier now that I am fat-adapted.

How many days did you want to fast?

(Adriana Ro) #7

I wanted to fast for 8 days and… I ended my fast after 24h. I miss being fat adapted so much. Cheating is not Worth it

According to the article posted he only gained back 16 pounds after 5 years.

If my math is correct, he lived another 25 years and died at age 52. The last time I tried to find a cause of death I was unable to.

Wow, he died really young. That’s sad. I saw that about 5 years, but wondered if he kept on gaining. Thanks for the response!

I thought so, too. Him dying young.
