EF and weight loss

Hey all,

I’m at hour 60 of my first EF. Most days I do an IF 16/8. I’m a little over 16 weeks into this keto journey. I gotta say, this has been tough for me. Not really the hunger but the mental aspect has been killer. I’ve only had water, black tea and salt. I’m down 4 pounds during this EF but my question is, does all of this weight come back? If so, was it not really weight to begin with? Maybe it’s a little weight and a little water? As a side note, this EF loss is the most I have lost since beginning my keto WOE. I’ve really lost no more than 5 pounds in the 3 months since starting keto. I’ll be super happy if the fast helped kicked me into gear but also a little bummed cause to be honest, I’ve hated every second of it!

Thanks for reading.

Everyone is different but some ‘weight’ must come back because after fasting for 60 hours your digestive tract will be empty and when you eat you will refill it back to the normal ‘transit’ state.
But that weight isn’t fat or adding to your body as such obviously. It is just that the scale doesn’t discriminate between weighing you and weighing food you’ve eaten!
A rule of thumb is that about 1/2 of what you’ve lost on a 3-4 day fast will come back.
How close are you to goal weight? Sadly it almost always slower the closer you get!

That makes a lot of sense. About the food going back into the digestive track and the scale not discriminating. Unfortunately I’m nowhere near my goal weight. From the start I wanted to get down roughly 50 pounds depending on how I felt getting close. That would still put me above what “the charts” say I should weigh but I feel like that would be fine with me. I’d rather be 10 pounds over what the government says I should weigh and be able to eat cheese. Ha. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m just a slow loser. I didn’t lose the initial water weight most do and it’s been slow going. To be fair, before keto I didn’t eat a lot of sugar or grains so that could play a part. I also have PCOS so that may have a role too. Thanks for the info!
