Eating too little? am i really an athlete?

(eat more) #1

so when i read a lot of other ppl’s symptoms/troubles my first thought is usually “eat more”…
so today a lightbulb said “why aren’t you saying that to yourself?”
so i redid my macros with a different activity level…am i really an athlete?
i mean i’m not competing or a professional but i do lift, HIIT, and stand for work…but do i really have athlete needs? probably but my brain is like “nah you just workout” lol

intuition fighting with fear, labels, and years and years of CICO being shoved down my throat? AND starting this keto journey being told to set activity to sedentary (which i did do at first )

my gut is telling me to eat more…

i’m not really sure the point of this post since it’s all mental and no one can tell me “yes you’re an athlete…eat more” :joy:

Ignore everything else you just said and do twenty reps of this per day. Work up to a thousand.

The gut and brain are connected. Your gut is probably telling your brain to eat more and your brain is telling your gut to signal for more food.

Trust your instincts. They rarely lead you astray. Unless they tell you to eat cake of course!!

Is your weight stable? How is your performance?

Are you trying to gain muscle or lose fat?

If both, it can be challenging to do them at the same time. I’ve adopted a bulking and cutting strategy where I’ll up my calories and supplement with BCAAs & concentrated whey protein to put on a few pounds, hopefully mostly muscle, and then go to a phase incorporating fasting to lose a few pounds, hopefully mostly fat.

If you are hungry, eat.

I keep Kerrygold butter around, and I roast pecans. I keep these two things around as snacks. Sometimes butter, sometimes pecans, sometimes buttered pecans!

Or, sometimes I’ll just drink a quarter cup of delicious heavy cream.

Ever since I’ve been in ketosis, just a smallest morsel of fat will reset my appetite.

Just give it a shot. If you get hungry between meals, just sneak a spoonful of butter or something. If all your other nutritional requirements are being met, the hunger just disappears.

stable as in not going anywhere lol
performance could be better…outside of training a well
squats aren’t as heavy as they once were

maintain muscle and lose fat…
haven’t made peace with fasting yet

If you’re hungry, you should eat. I made myself miserable with macro calculators when I first started, setting them to sedentary and then feeling like crap with the low calories recommended.

@EatSleepRide, @Theresa
it’s not about hunger…
i appreciate your replies
