Went out for dinner with work tonight. First time eating out since being keto. I don’t think I made good choices
Had 1 popadom and a balti. No rice. No naan.
Feel bloated and rubbish. I’m sad and annoyed with myself

Eating out since going keto 9 months ago has been a disappointment. Everything has to be modified in some way. I also feel cheated as you pay for bread, starchy side dishes, etc and have to pass on them. With that said I have had some wonderful home cooked meals.
Someday someone will open some Keto restaurants.
don’t beat yourself up!! it’s done, just move on and keep keto. You will be great. And good job on passing up on rice and naan!!
We don’t eat out often, but haven’t found it to be a problem. If the restaurant doesn’t have a veggie side, they will usually substitute an extra salad. We have gotten some very good food we probably wouldn’t have ordered otherwise. If it’s a restaurant we aren’t familiar with, we try to find the menu online.
At an Italian place they substitute spinach for pasta, sauce was sweet though, but was a better meal that way.
After a while it gets much easier as you know what to look for. Restaurants have always been accommodating to my changes. Ordering “off the menu” is done by a lot of people for a lot of reasons. Most places don’t mind at all. They want you happy
The trick is chutzpah. Most of the time if you just ask real nice and smile they have no trouble accommodating you, but you have to ask. Also, be sure you tip well because you’re most likely going to be back and you want the wait staff to remember you. (Ex waitress hint)
I generally have good luck at barbecue smokehouses (just order a lb of whatever meat and ask them to bring mayo). Gourmet burger joints are my new obsession, just tell them you’re low carb and half the time they will throw in extra meat. I also find brunch restaurants and diners tend to be VERY accommodating with low carb. My favorite one will sub avocado slices for hashbrowns at no extra charge.
Good luck!
Don’t beat yourself up. It is 1 meal out of the many you will consume, and truth be told, 1 meal isn’t going to derail you as bad as you think. Just get back on the wagon and keep moving forward.
When I go out to eat, if I am not familiar with the restaurant, I will look up the menu online and find low carb options. Worse case scenario I get meat and salad if I can’t find anything interesting that is keto friendly.
Most people that I’ve talked to who aren’t argumentative about this WOE usually tell me that they don’t think they could do it because their lifestyle has them eating out a lot and they don’t feel that agree’s with keto. I’ve been keto 6+ weeks and have yet to find somewhere that doesn’t have a salad, hamburger, sushi, steak, heavy cream sauce or veggies. California is the land-o-plenty, so, maybe we are just extremely spoiled here.
