Eating Keto In India (AKA carb fest land)

(Angela Henry) #1

Okay, I LOVE India!! I need some advice though… I go to India 2-3 times a year for mission work and the place I stay cooks for us (gracious people). The problem is, the food is mostly potato/bread based and I have no say so over what to eat or the time that I eat. Fruit and vegetables are limited. These are the things I can control:

  1. Not eat breakfast and stay in my IF
  2. Drink black coffee for breakfast and take xylitol
  3. Pick out the meat of main dishes (but sometimes the meat is hard for me to eat due to lots of bone and cartilage and “things”)
  4. ???

Any advice?

Under extreme conditions like that I would just eat less of it, and not eat to feel satiated!

That‘s the best kind of meat, bone and cartilage and things (mmmm the best part) especially if it is in a soup or broth!

I would definitely be eating and enjoying that or making a broth out of it if possible? (maybe ask the cook to make bone broth out of it?)

You might be able to work around it if you were not eating at the place you stay. Muslim restaurants always have kabobs and grilled meat. Tandoori Chicken, I bought green pepper omelettes from a street cart in some places, usually served on white bread. Fasting often might help. Staying with strict IF and eating some carbs may be the only option often for not loosing all your progress. Tough nut to crack. I loved India too when I traveled there. Depends a lot on where you stay and what the locals eat. In coastal areas there is always fish curry. Go for coconut milk based versions. :cowboy_hat_face:
