The dynamics of family food can be SO crazy. My mom was always big on Trying New Things. As a toddler I fed bleu cheese, shrimp and sauerkraut, among other things. Don’t you dare waste that fried liver or brussel sprouts! It took me 20 years to realize this pressure to be non-biased in my food choices was actually a power play: my mother preparing her favorites and getting angry because my father didn’t like them. Two on one, if she could get me to eat them then she was “right”.
Eating in moderation works
@never2late: Yep that’s worse. And at least my worst hunger was merely annoying, it didn’t change me as it apparently do other people, hence the existence of the word hangry…
On HCHF I was very satiated for long periods, that wasn’t a problem. Until this day (if I can eat carby to begin with, I am not sure anymore), carbs make OMAD super easy (if I focus on it so make sure to stuff myself on my first and only meal).
But when I got hungry, it regularly came very strong, very sharp, almost painful and wanted the food immediately. I never can ignore my proper, full-blown (though almost always a still softer fat adapted) hunger but that thing was much worse. Very inconvenient sometimes. It just doesn’t get it I have NO food at the moment… No, food, NOW. Or else. I only remember a single such occassion but it was bad. I had my low-carb times, low-carb almost day of the year, I loved it. But I wasn’t fat adapted and had that annoying hunger sometimes. And it came in the wrong time. I ate 5 bananas because I had nothing else. It lasted 1 hour and I was at home when time was up so it ended kind of well… (I lost my ability to eat 5 bananas since then. But as I never ever wanted to do it and I don’t need it, it’s good.)
I went into the other direction.
I had 3 hours on keto. Probably 3 to several on carbs if we look at my hunger and not my wrong desires because carbs messed with me. But a big meal lasted long The bigger, the longer, I have it on every woe I think.
I have 1-3 hours on carnivore (sometimes longer though but 3 hours is my typical thing). I can get hungry very easily unlike on carbs but it’s due to small meals due to easy satiation that happens on carnivore. Not too often, thankfully but I can get hungry 1 hour after a 1300 kcal meal too now.
No problem, I love a tiny eating window, works better than a big one. And I rarely have many tiny meals nowadays, that was annoying. It’s not like I get hungry often all day Just in my smallish eating window. I never needed food early, no matter my woe.
Eating a meal and having several hours until the next is something I don’t have (not never but extremely rarely) - except on OMAD, of course. And OMAD is way easier with carbs…
Oh so that is a possible explanation why it had too much food to begin with! Makes sense. I couldn’t figure out that as I function differently.
I usually only use my bigger plates when I know I need them. And I strongly prefer my small bowls but my carni dishes usually suit plates better.
That’s a good idea. If I am not sure I need much, I take little too (there are certain dishes where it’s almost impossible for me not to finish the plate/bowl like soups). I easily can have seconds, thirds, forths, fifths and so on. I had a sixth once. It was soup and I preferred my cute black, quite small bowls back then and it was still my veggie soup times where 1 liter was an adorable amount to me.
Keto isn’t about kcal control or portion control in any way.
But it is about carb control for sure
What you eating in your OMAD day? Are you forcing this or do you feel best on OMAD? You might be better off with a 2 meal day easily as most of us fit into in our lifestyles. I mean alot do fine on OMAD but many of us here actually eat 2 meals per day, kinda fits our lifestyles and body best. Ever consider that?
I agree with Fangs, that a 2 meal a day or even 3 meal a day might be better for you. I do 2-3 meals, and that works well, yesterday, my first meal was 2 beef burgers for the first meal, my second meal 3 eggs fried in butter and with fresh butter on. My third meal 3 lovely fatty mackarel fillets fried in butter and with fresh butter on. I also daily have a snack/treat/dessert which is my glass of raw milk. It provides much more than just energy.
