Eat MORE Fat?

#1

The answer to my question is: eat more fat

Here’s the scenario: After eight months I’m down to 192 from 270+. I haven’t lost any weight in the last three weeks, which is no big deal as non-scale improvements continue. Here’s the thing. I’m hungry. So very hungry. One of the things that made this WOE so effortless was the level of satiety that I’ve felt along this journey. But, over these last three weeks it seems that I cannot eat enough.

Don’t ask about macros. I don’t know them. I’m a lazy keto/carnivore kinda guy. Even so, as I eat more fat…what might be causing my surge in hunger?

given your weightloss and lack of macros, my guess is not enough calories

(Miss E) #3

or your weightloss has lowered the tipping point of carbs or protein and you may need to have less?

Calories? Calories? Do people still believe that CICO myth? (heavy sarcasm…)

Um…I eat a lot. Saturday was half a pound of homemade breakfast sausage, three eggs, cheese, two 1/3 lb hamburger patties with cheese and mayo, and another half pound of taco meat with sour cream and avocado scooped up with pork rinds.

Sunday? I woke up hungry.

Oh you’re making me hungry just reading that, ha!

I was gonna ask about protein as it can be pretty satisfying. But it sounds like you have that covered.

I’ve also been putting both mct oil and heavy cream in my coffee.

It might be your body trying to go back to a higher setpoint weight. A setpoint is described in Dr. Fung’s Obesiety Code book. And is where your body is essentially thinking your starving to death, because you used to weigh X and now you weigh X. So it is reducing energy output or increasing energy output to try to get you to that weight no matter what you eat. One method for combating this he suggests is fasting as it reduces your insulin resistance. Also, green tea and Apple Cider Vinegar might help as well suppress the hunger. I fight that as well, on weekends I have crazy hunger urges to snack. Even though I don’t snack at all nearly when I work during the week. I’m actually looking at Episode 58 suggestion of keeping the body off balance by changing up things too. Such as week 1 Fat Fasting, week 2 IF Fasting, week 3 One meal a day, etc.

I appreciate your response.

Over the past eight months I have fallen into a pattern of intermittent fasting Monday-Friday and feasting on the weekend. It’s just that the last few weeks I’ve been hungrier than normal. My weight isn’t climbing. I seem to be still losing fat. So, I’m good. Right. Just curious about the surge in hunger.

Entirely rampant speculation, but if you’ve given your metabolism a taste of high calorie like that, it may’ve started to ramp up activity and adjusted to it, thinking it’s the new normal?

So the days after the feasting, it’ll send hunger signals for a bit before it ‘furloughs’ as Richard puts it, those long term building projects.

Now, that kinda makes sense.

I am also experiencing hunger like a haven’t before. I am down 260>185 (wow 75!). I have been IF most weekdays. I go for 72 hours on Sunday-Weds. The last 2-3 weeks have been really hard. I figured out that it was “Sneaky Carbs”. I bought some bulk nuts, Almonds, Peanuts, and Pistachios. I believe it was these nuts that sent me into a “Craving State”. Hungry all the time. It took a while to get off the nuts now I am back to being in a state of satiety and able to IF once again. My leptin response is back. I think it’s amazing that such a little amount of Carbohydrates can shut down the leptin response. Anyway that’s my story. KCKO.

I experienced increased hunger at 7 months, accompanied by a stall 30 pounds from goal. I think from what I’ve read it’s possible my body had accessed all the easy pickins body fat & also my fat cells got healthier which means they held onto their stores better. Meanwhile my basal insulin remained too high to allow access to energy from said fat stores. My approach was to incorporate weekly fasts of 40-90 hours to drive my insulin levels down so I can once more access my onboard energy.

Seems to be working but it’s taking a while. It’s six months later & I’m starting to feel more like I did at the start, less hungry between meals, scale moving a tiny bit.

I’m also eliminating dairy for a month to see if it was triggering hunger, among other questions. Jury is still out on that.

I will say if you are hungry, eat more food = protein+fat, not just fat.

(Karen) #15

I’m watching all your experiments. Sweetener free this week here AND April I’m everyday other day fasting.

Amazing loss @Just_Todd

24 hour fasts?

(Sarah ) #17

When i eat lots of nuts I tend to be more hungry the next day or two. Ive experimented with this several times. Makes me sad, but its true. Also booze seems to make me hungrier the next day. I love whisky but I just have to be aware.
