Early menopause and Keto

#1

Hi,

I’m 43 and hit early menopause just this year two months ago. I’ve been on a keto diet since May this year and have just started spotting after 14 months of no bleeding whatsoever ! I’m concerned and curious if keto could cause this to happen.
My hormones have been highly irregular courtesy multiple endometriosis surgeries which shut down my ovaries eventually and gave us years of infertility woes. I’ve been feeling great on keto so far - lost 23 lbs and love it in general. But this is worrying me and I’ll appreciate any thoughts or advise. Thank you !

Given your history I’d say it’s worth a mention to your Dr or gyno but if it’s at all reassuring many women have weird hormones when they start keto. If you do a search of the forums you’ll find all sorts of stories :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you Safi! My head usually goes straight fir the C word worries when something unusual occurs - its reassuring to know I’m not a unicorn then !

Well I’m sure you are in many wonderful ways but not in this particular way

Any real weight loss can trigger hormonal weirdness but the effectiveness of keto can really kick things up!

Women have the added ‘bonus’ with our hormones being affected and stored into fats. So as we lose weight, and liberate the stored fat, stored toxins and hormones get released as well, causing us to sometimes have quirky responses like spotting.

Joys of womanhood, eh?
